Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT E. LINHAM, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO; HERMIE LINHAM, EXECUTRIX OE SAID ROBERT E. LINHAM, DECEASED, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO THE LINIAIAM DADO MACHINE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
MOLDlNG-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 472,678, dated April 12, 1892.
' Application iiled February 14|, 1890. Serial No. 340.472. (No model.)
.To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT E. LINHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county' of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molding-Cutters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it aplo pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in molding-cutters; and the cutter is especially designed and adapted for use in a cutter-head for which I have tiled an application of even date herewith, bearing the Serial No. 340,466.
The object of this invention is the provision of a cutter which will form a series of parallel similar beads on the material.
To attain this object the invention consists 2o of a shank and a foot formed integral with the shank at a right angle thereto, the under side of the foot of said shank being formed with a series of grooves or channels parallel with each other and similar in shape and size z5 and the outer edge of the foot being formed with cutter-edges, whereby7 a series of curved parallel beads are provided on the material.
Figure 1 represents a frontv elevation of the molding bit or cutter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line no :I: of Fig. l.
The cutter l consists of a shank 2, of preferred form to adapt the cutter to the cutterhead referred to, and integral with the shank is a foot 3, attened on its upper surface. The
foot is arranged ata right angle to the shank, and the upper face is Hat, and the lower face is formed with a series of curved parallel similar grooves or channels 4, having the cutting-edge 5 at the forward edge thereof. By arranging the foot at a right angle and forming the channels on the under side a series of similar shaped and sized beads are formed on the face of the molding; also, the beads are formed substantially in line with the shank, and the cutter may be used alone or in connection with a cutter which will form a design at the sides of the beads. It will also be noticed that between the rear of the foot or blade, on the upper side thereof, and the lower part of the shank a recess or throat 6 is formed to give the blade unobstructed working surface throughout its entire length by allowing the cut material to pass away from the blade. It will also be noticed that the lower rear portion of the heel of the foot is beveled, as at 7, to reduce resistance after the cutting action of the blade or tool entire vby shortening the bearing-surface. By this construction the tool-shank is connected to the foot or blade by a narrow neck sufficiently strong to resist breakage.
I claim as my invention- The herein-described cutter or bit for moldings, comprising a shank and a foot atv right angles and connected to said shank bya neck formed by an upper recess or throat and a lower rear bevel, said foot having a iiat or plane top, and a series of parallel cutters arranged to cut a series of gro'oved beads, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence oftwo witnesses.
' ROBERT E. LINHAM.
