A. I'. TROUARD.. FOLDING GHIGKEN 0001 Patented Deo. 15,1891.
THE nanars erzns 60 PHG-wrme., wAsmNcToN, n. c.
UNITED STATESA PATENT OFFICE.
ALOIDE FRANQOIS TROUARD, OF NEV ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNORYOF ONE-HALF TO SAMUEL BLUM, OF SAME PLACE.
FOLDING CHICKEN-COOP.
y'SPE(')IllfICAfllION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,438, dated December 15,1891.
Application led J'nne 18, 1891. Serial No. 396,753. (No model.)
' a folding chicken-coop; and its novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claims, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings; and the objects of my invention are to provide a coop that may be transported at a small expense,
and which may be folded when not in use. I
attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
' which- Figure l is a top view showing coop folded out flat. Fig. 2 is a perspective view. Fig. 3 is a top view showing coop folded. Fig. 4 is a side view showing coop folded. Fig. 5 is an end view of top and side piece, showing groove. Fig. G is a detail side view showing the parts folded.
Similar letters refer to similar parts th roughout the several views.
In the drawings, A refers to bed or bottom of coop, to which is attached side pieces B by means of hinges or any suitable means.
C are pieces which are attached to A, and when in position, as shown in Fig. 2, form end of coop. Attached to C are pieces D, provided with openings L, in which pins or projections K enter when coop is in position, as shown in Fig. 2; but where desired the side pieces B may be provided with a groove and the .top piece D with a tongue, as shown in Fig. 5, and in this manner the side pieces B may also be securely held in position when coop is in use. Y
E is a clasp, which rests over slot F, and through which rod G, which is provided with an eye H, projects when the coop is in position, as shown in Fig. 2.
M is a small door for enabling fowls to be removed from coop or placed therein.
N is a metal rod attached to A and having a hook on end of same which engages an eye D as shown in Fig. 4, and enables the coop to be held in position when folded.
'lhe side pieces B, ends O, and top piecesD y are frames to which wires are attached, while the bed or bottom A is preferably of wood. One of the end pieces C have the hinges raised-say one inch or more-while the opposite piece C has its hinges raisedsay two inches or more-thus enabling the ends C to lap over the side pieces B when folded upon A, as shown in Fig. 4. Thus should it be desired to fold coop the piecesB are folded upon A, while the pieces O and D are folded or lapped one over the other, as shown in Fig. 4.
When it is desired to use the coop to transport chickens or other fowls, the pieces B are placed in a vertical position, the end piece O lying to the left, as shown in Fig. l, is raised and the top piece D, attached to C, is also raised and placed on the pieces B, the projections K entering the openings L, while the eye Hon rod Gis placed in slot F. The end piece O on the right is then raised to a vertical position, and the top piece D, attached thereto, havingclasp E thereon, is placed in position, and the eye H is passed through slot in clasp E, and where desired can be securely fastened by means of a padlock.
Chickens or other fowls may be placed in the coop by raising one of the top pieces D or through small door M. A striking advantage of my invention is its construction and economy in transportation.
Having described my invention, I would state that I do not limit myself to the precise details herein described in illustration of'my invention, as the same may be varied to some extent; but
I declare that what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved folding chicken-coop described, consisting, essentially, of the bottom A, the sides B B, hinged to the bottom so as to fold thereon and having the pins K in theirouter edges, the end walls C C, also having an eye at its outer end, all su'bstan- 1o tially as shown and'described.
In testimony whereof I affix mysgnature in presence of two witnesses.
