NITED STATES ATENT Gruen. I
EAR-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,811, dated December 8, 1891.
Application filed May 14, 1891. Serial No. 392,763. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we,JUL1Us BONNER, a citizen of the United States, and ISAAC EIsnER, a subject of the King of Roumania, both residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ear-Rings, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the means employed for suspending the drop or jewel of an earring, as pointed out in the following specification and claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a side elevation partly in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical'section in the plane :r Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section in the plane y y, Fig. 1.
In the drawings, the letter A designates the bow. (L is the arm, to which the hook b is Secured, and c is the free arm of the bow, which is intended to engage the hook b. The arm a is bent nearly at vright angles, and in the bent portion d is formed a ring d. (Best seen in Fig. 3.)
P is the pendant, which is provided with an eye e small enough to pass freely into the ring d. After said eye has been introduced into the ring a wire screw-pivot f is passed through the ring and the eye, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This wire is made in the form of a'screw, or otherwise so constructed that it can be readily taken out from and reinserted into the ring d for the purpose of removing the pendant and inserting another of different form, if it is desired to do so. This change can be eifected without removing the bow A from the ear. The inner surface of the eye e, carried by the pendant P, is made convex, Fig. 2, so that it bears upon the con- 4o Vex surface of the wirefonly at one point, and the pendant is free to swing or vibrate in any desired direction.
By means of the ring d, formed in the bent ortion a. of the arm d, the eye e, carried by P the pendant, and the wire f the operation of attaching the pendant to the bow A is materially facilitated.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the bow A, having the bent portion d formed with a ring d, and
