SWEAT-PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 456,065, dated July 14, 1891.
Application filed March 16, 1891- Serial No. 385,295. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY RYBURN, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sweat and Collar Pads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved sweat and collar pad combined; and it consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are respectively top plan and sectional views of the pad with the parts adjusted to position for use upon a sore neck, and Fig. 3 shows the pad as ready for use when the neck is not sore.
The pad may be a stuffed cushion-pad, as shown, or it may be of felt or other suitable material, and in general shape the pad may be similar to the ordinary pad. At its center or portion which rests upon the top of the neck the pad A is formed with an opening B, leaving narrow side strips 0 0, connecting the main pad-sections on opposite sides of such opening. The opening B is made suiticiently large to fit over any ordinary sore at the top of the neck, and the strips 0 C are at all times separated and in the position shown in Fig. 1. To close this opening B, and for the further purpose of lifting the top part of the collar clear of the neck when sore, I providethe flaps D, extending from the opposite ends of the opening B and adapted to be utilized to close such opening, as shown in Fig. 3, or to be turned back and over, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to raise the collar entirely off the sore. These flaps D are preferably made tapering toward their free ends and are of such shape and size that when turned to the position shown in Fig. 2 they together fill the opening B. Medicine may be applied to the sore when the top of the pad is open, as the sore is then free of weight or pressure.-
Strings E or other suitable fastenings may be employed to hold the flaps in position to close the opening B.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new is 1'. A pad having an opening and provided with flaps adapted to be turned outward to expose the opening or to be turned inward to close such opening, substantially as shown and described.
2. A pad having an opening B and provided with flaps extended from the opposite ends of said opening, tapered toward their free ends, and adapted to fill the opening B when properly adjusted for such purpose, substantially as set forth.
