Description

(No Model.) 1
E. G. GAILLAO.
TOWEL HOLDER.
No. 451,182. Patented Apr. 28, 1891.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGENE G. GAILLAC, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS, AS SIGNOR TO HIMSELF, JOHN \V. HOBBS, AND-HOIVARD \V. ROGERS, OF SAME PLACE.
TOWEL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,182, dated April 28, 1891.
Application filed February 14, 1889. Renewed March 17, 1891. Serial No. 385,414. (No model.)
To all whom it nwty concern.-
Be it known that I, EUGENE Q. GAILLAO, of Chelsea, in the county of Sulfolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new 5 and useful Improvement in Devices for Holding Towels and Similar Articles, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is an elevation showing my im provement in use; Fig. 2, an edge elevation of the holder; and Figs. 3 and 4t elevations showing modifications of the improvement.
- Like letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different fig- 2o ures of the drawings.
My invention relates to a device for detachably holding towels, napkins, and similar articles in convenient position for use; and it consists in certain novel features, as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this character than is now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of the improve- 0 ment will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation.
1n the drawings, A represents the body of the holder, and B the towel.
The body A consists of two downwardlypi-oj ectin g curved arms d f, connected at their upper: ends by a ring g, which is fitted to revolveon the end of a rod h. The rod h is bent at right angles at i, Fig. 2, and is screw threaded at Zto enable it to be readily secured in a wall D or other convenient position. clamping-bar m is pivoted at p in the lower end of each arm d f, in such a manner that the inner ends tof said arms come in contact 5 with each other. A coiled spring 12 is secured by one end to the outer edge of each arm (I f, the lower ends of said springs being secured to the outer ends of the bars m. The springs v act contractively to elevate the outer ends of the clamping-bars and thereby force their inner ends into engagement. A thumb-piece z is secured to the lower end of each bar m. In the use of my improvement the device may be adjust-ed in any suitable position by means of its screw Z.
It will be seen that by drawing the towel' upward it may be readily withdrawn from between the clamping-bars.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 curved fiat springs to are secured by one end to the inner edges of the arms d f, the free ends of said springs bearing on the bars m and effecting the same result as the springs o.
In the holder shown in Fig. 4 the ring 'g and rod h are dispensed with, and a pin 1) and pin-hook j are secured to the back of the body, whereby it may be fastened to the cloth- Tiaving thus explained my invention, what I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of 'a body comprising two inwardly-curved arms secured together atone end, clamping-rods pivoted in the outer ends of said arms so that the inner ends of said rods will engage, contractile springs connecting the outer ends of said rods with said arms, and means, substantially as described, for suspending said body.
2. In a towel-holder, the body A, comprising the arms (1 fand ring g, in combination with the screw-rod h, clamping-bars m, and springs to, substantially as described.
3. In a towel-holder, the body A, provided with the arms elf and ring g, in combination with the rod h, clamping bars m, pivoted in the outer ends of said arms, springs o, connecting the outer ends of said bars with said arms, and the plates 2 on said bars, all being arranged to operate substantially as described.
EUGENE Gr. GAILLAO.
