W. S. JARBOE.
MOP WRINGER.
Patented Mar. 3, 1891.
WALTER S. JARBOE, OF ALLEGHENY, ASSIGNOR TO THE PITTSBURG MOP VRINGER COMPANY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
MOP-WRINGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 447,732, dated MarchS, 1891.
Application filed December 1, 1890. Serial No. 373,186. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER S. JARBOE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered a certain new and useful Improvement in Mop- W rin gers, of which improvement the following is a specification. 4
The object of my invention is to provide a 0 mop-\vringer of simple and inexpensive construction, having its working parts arranged so as to avoid obstructing the inside of a pail, and adapted to convenient and effective operation in wringing out a mop.
r5 To this end my invention, generally stated, consists in the combination, with a pail, of a pair of vibrating wringing-rolls, a pair of transversely-swinging clamping bails actuated by one of said rolls, and springs by which 2 the rolls are coupled to a pivoted treadle.
The improvement claimed is hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an isometrical view of a mop-wringer embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 avertical l0n gitudinal section through the same.
. In the practice of myinvention Iprovide a pail or water-receptacle 1, which is preferably of sheet metal, and, as shown, of rectangular 3 form. A frameor rim 2 is connected to the top of thepail, and two pairs of bearings 3 are connected to said frame, one pair being adjacent to each end thereof. Two wringing-rolls 4 are fitted to vibrate toward and from each other above the pail, each roll being connected to the upper ends of a pair of links 6,
the lower ends of which are provided with journals 7. mounted in the bearings 23. A
' clamping-bail 8, which is formed of wire bent 0 preferably into substantially rectangular form, is journaled in a bearing 9 on each side of the frame between the bearings 3, each bail having an arm 10 projecting upwardly from one of its journals. A treadle com- 5 posed of two arms 11, located on opposite sides of the pail and connected to a footplate 12, extending transversely thereto near one of its ends, is pivoted to vertical standards or extensions 13, formed on a pair of removable base-bars 14, which fit against the sides of the pail at the bottom thereof, and are connected by transverse bolts 15, having nuts 16 on their ends, by which the bars are drawn and held closely against the sides of the pail. The supporting-links 6 of each of the wringing-rolls 4 are connected by springs 17 with the treadle-arms 11, the tension of the springs maintaining the parts normally in the positions shown in Fig. 1 and in full lines in Fig. 2. Fingers 18 are secured to one of the pairs of links 6 in such position as to abut against the arms 10 of the clampingbails 8 when the rolls at are moved inwardly or toward each other by downward movement of the treadle, the pressure of said fingers swinging the bails into horizontal position when the rolls are brought near each other.
In operation the mop is placed in the pail and the treadle depressed by the foot of the operator, thereby bringing the rolls 4 into contact and swinging the clamping-bails S into horizontal position. The mop being then drawn out between the wringing-rolls and clamping-bails under compression from both pairs of members the water will be thoroughly driven out, and; upon the relief of pressure upon the treadle the springs return the rolls and bails to normal position in readiness for another operation.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a pail, of a pair of vibrating wringing-rolls, a pair of clamping-bails swinging transversely to the rolls and actuated by one of said rolls, a pivoted treadle, and springs coupling the rolls to said treadle, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a pail, a rim or top frame connected thereto, swinging links j ournaled in pairs in hearings on the rim, wringo ing-rolls connected to the free ends of said pairs of links, a pair of clamping-bails journaled on the rim at right angles to the wringing-rolls, atreadle pivotedon the pail, springs coupling said treadle with the links of the 5 wringing-rolls, and fingers connected to one pair of said rolls in position to abut against arms on the clamping-bails, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of a pail, a pair of re- :00
movable hase-bars, transverse bolts clamping In testimony whereof I have hereunto set said base-bars against opposite sides of the my hand. pail, a treadle pivoted to extensions on the base-bars, a top frame or rim eonneetecl to \VALTER S. JAR 30E. the pail, a pair of wringer-rolls fixed to links journaled on the rim, and springs coupling -Witnesses:
said links to the treadle, substantially as set J. SNOWDEN BELL,
forth. F. E. GAITIIER.
