BOILER OR STOVE GRATE...

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,416, dated January 2'7, 1891.

Application filed November 11, 1889. Renewed Dctober 10,1890. Serial No. 367,680. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OHN H. WATERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler or Stove Grates; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art .to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in grates for center-feed magazine stoves or boilers, the construction and operation of which will be understood from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the grate, together with the rocking mechanism, parts being broken away; Fig. 2,a View from the opposite side, showing the dumping-bar, and Fig. 3 a view in section.

In the drawings, A represents a circular section cast with radiating arms a, there beingthree of such, that segment ofthe shakingsection of the grate into which the dumpingsection is drawn not being provided with such an arm, and a central bearing l), as shown, and provided with a numberof spikes aproperly arranged to stir up the ashes and out up the clinkers as they are held down on the spikes by the weight of the coal. This grate is cast with asegmenta-l rack (l, with which a segmental rocking bar B meshes, such bar being connected with a suitable handle 0, the shaking of the grate A being thus provided for.

D represents my dome-shaped center or dumping section of the grate, which is cast with suitable openings arranged diametrically opposite each other, and into which suitable pivot-pins e are arranged to enter,

such pins being attached to one of the crossdumped under a heavy weight of coal, which result cannot be accomplished by the use of the cone-shaped grates now in use. It also carries the clinkers and ashes from the center to the outside, where the spikes are provided to stir up the ashes and cut up the clinkers.

hat I claim is In a grate, the combination, with shakingsection A, provided with arms a, bearing 1), and pivot-pins c, mounted upon such arms, of a dumping center D, formed with bearings for pins 6, the parts so arranged that the pins will be beneath the dumping center and protected thereby, as set forth.
