G ZITLOW GOMBINATION TOOL.
Patented Oct.-`28,.'1890.

Invenr:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
GEORGE ZITLOW, OF TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPCIFICATON forniing part of Letters Patent N o. &39,336, dated October 28, 1890.
Application filed. April 12, 1890. Serial No. 347.617. (No model.)
To all whom 't may concerm Be it known that I, GEORGE ZITLOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of &Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of combination-tools embracing a hammer, wrench, and screw-driver; and the nvention consists in a novel Construction of such device, as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tool. Fig. 2 is an end view, partly in section.
A indicates the body of the Wrench; B, the movable or adjustable head, and C, the handle proper. The main body A is made hollow to receive the threaded stern a of the adjustable head B, and is provided with an opening in which is fitted a thumb-nut b, which is designed to engage the threaded stern of the head B. The'body A is provided with a lat- A course understood that the under face of the arm f and upper face of the arm e Will be provided with teeth which shall take a firm bite or hold upon the pipe. It follows from this Construction that the head B may be moved upon or with reference to the body A, so as to increase or decrease the space between the arms e and f and the noses c and d. By adjusting the nosed portions c and d away from or toward each other the device is adapted to* receive nuts of varying sizes in the same manner as the arms e and f are adapted to receive pipes of different sizes.
It will be noticed that the handle C is hinged or pivoted to the lower end of the stock or body A, and is held normally in line with the stock or body by means of a spring-actnated pin or stud g, which engages with a notch h, formed in the lower end of the stock or body A.
By withdrawing the pin or rod g the handle may be swung or turned at right angles, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and may be held in such position by reason of the engaging of the pin or rod g with a socket i, formed upon the side face of the stock or body near its lower end. It is particularly useful to have the handle portion at right angles to the main body of the wrench, in order that it may operate in the manner of a crank and facilitate the screwing up of nuts or pipes. The rod or sten g projects through the lower end of the handle, and has its lower end flattened and pointed, as at j, so as to serve the purpose of a screw-driver.
The arm f is bifurcated to form claws k, by means of which nails may be withdrawn or pulled.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In combination with the body A, having sockets in its lower end, the adjustable head, the hinged or pivoted handle C, and the screwdriver g mounted within the handle, the upper end of the screw-driver being adapted to engage the sockets in the'body A, while the lower end projects beyond the lower end of the handle,as and for the purpose set forth.
In witncss whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE ZITLOVV;
Witnesses:
JAs. M. HARRIS, FRED F. LACEY.
