Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'JACOB HIRSHFELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
OUTING-BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 439,244, dated October 28, 1890.
Application filed August 2, 1890.
Serial No. 3 60,786. (No model.)
.necessity of constantly refolding the same, as
fully set forth hereinafter, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of my combined sash and outing-belt, showing t-he ends disconnected; Fig. 2, an exterior view showing the same as arranged when in position around the body of the wearer.
A represents an ordinary waist-belt of any suitable width and material, provided at the opposite ends with buckles 2 2, eyes 3 3, and a coupling-hook 4, by means of which it may be lengthened or contracted to proper size and then fastened around the waist of the wearer. Such waist-,belts have become a necessity in supporting the clothing for outdoor work and sport, but are objectionable in consequence of their unsightly appearance, for which reason it is common to conceal them by a sash wrapped round the body over the belt and tied or pinned in place.
The necessity of frequently folding, tying, and untying the sash soon impairs the appearance of the latter, while many find it diliicult to fold the sash in such a manner and tie it properly, and I therefore have devised a means of supporting a covering-sash in its folded position, as follows: The sash B is folded longitudinally, as required, and one end 6 is plaited to reduce its width, and is then applied to the belt and turned over the opposite `edges of the latter and, stitched thereto along the line The sash is then carried farther around the belt for a little over half its length, the edges 7 8 being folded in against the inner face of the belt, as shown.,
in Fig. 1, and another line of stitches y fastens the sash to the belt 'at a point adjacent to one side of the wearer, leaving the remaining portion 9 of t-he sash, which is about onchalf of the entire length, free from attachment with the belt. The free portion 9 of the sash is contracted at the outer end and provided with a hook or other fastening l0 to engage an eye or other fastening 12, arranged adjacent to the line of stitching Qc. The sash and the belt are thus permanently combined with a portion of the belt enveloped in the Vment on the part of the user.
The sash Vmaybe of any suitable width and of any desired color and material, and when necessary it can be readily removed from the belt by ripping the stitches y 'and as readily replaced by restitching at the same points.
Without limiting myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts shown and described, I claim- A combined sash and outing-belt consisting of a waist-belt and a sash securedthereto at one end and at an intermediate point and having a loose end provided with a fastening device for securing it to the fixed end of lthe sash, substantially as described. y
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this'specitication in the presenceof two subscribin g witnesses.
JACOB HIRSHFELD.
