(N0 Model.)
s. STIEGLITZ.
GAME COUNTER.
No. 437,057. Patented Sept..28. 1
$32125 WWW W5? A TTOHN E Y8 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIEGMUND STIEGLITZ, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
GAME-COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,057, dated September 23, 1890. Application filed April 17 1890. Serial No. 348,385. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIEG-MUND STIEGLITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Case or Receptacle for Cards and other Objects, of which the following is a specifi cation.
This invention relates to a case or receptacle for receiving such objects as playingcards,score-cards,dominoes,andotherobjects, and by means of this invention the score or progress of a game can be easily noted, as set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanyin gdrawin gs, in which Figure 1 is a face view of the case-cover. Fig. 2 is a view of the case-bottom. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of Fig. 1. Fig. 4. is a section along at a", Fig. 3. Figs. 5 and 6 are perspective views of slides.
The case or receptacle may be of any wellknown suitable form.
In the drawings the case is shown in the form of a box provided with a cover sitting over the box. The face or top A of the cover is shown as having a number of slides Oone or morewhich are placed on the inner or under side of said face A. The box-bottom B is shown as having a number of slides D one or more-which are placed on the outer side of said bottom B. The slides C D travel in guides E, which are readily formed by striking or cutting tongues or clips out of the face A and bottom B and pressing said clips either outward or inward, according as the slide is to be placed on the outside or the inside of the bottom 13 or face A. Each slide 0 has a designation, such as a number or character, and the face A has a sight-opening F for the designation on each slide. When the slide is moved to its exposing position, its designation is exposed through the opening F-as, for example, in the case of the slides bearing the designations 10 and 100, Fig. 1. The remaining slides in Fig. 1 are shown in their concealing position, so that their designations are hidden from view. Each slide (J has a handle G, which enables the slide to be operated from the outside of the case as each handle G projects through a slot H in the face A. The slot l-I forms a guide for the handle, and also acts as a stop to properly limit the movement of the slide and handle. Each slide D has a designation, such as a number or mark. The guidesEoverlap the slides D. lVhen the slide is moved to its exposing position, the designation on the slide is exposed-as, for example, in the case of the slides bearing the designations 10 and 70, Fig. 2. hen the slides are moved to their conceaL ing position, as is the case with the remaining slides in Fig. 2, the guides E will conceal or cover the designations on the slides D, in whole or in part. The slides D have handles 1, which enable the slides to be operated, and said handles also form stops for limiting the movements of the slides. The slides D with their handles, as also the slides O with their handles, are readily formed or shaped from sheet metal.
The bottom 13 may have designations-such as marks ornumbers--eitherplaced or marked directly on the bottom or upon paper or other substance placed within the bottom, so that the designations will appear through sightopenings K in the bottom. By moving the slides D to the exposing positions the desig nations of the bottom B will be exposed, and by moving the slides to their concealing position said designations are concealed.
lVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I 1. The combination, with a case or receptacle for cards and other articles, having a designating character, of a slide-bearing or a similar designating character, and a guide located on the exterior of the case or receptacle, and overlapping the slide to conceal the designation on the slide when the latter is moved to cover the designating character on the case or receptacle, substantially asdescribed.
2. A case or receptacle for cards and other objects, provided with a designation, one or more, a slide D, one or more, for concealing said designation, said slide also bearing a designation, and a guide on the exterior of the case or receptacle made to overlap the slide, so as to conceal the designation on the slide when the slide is moved to cover the designation on the case or receptacle, substantially as described.
3. A case or receptacle for cards and other 2 V r I 437357 objects, provided with a sight-opening K, one or more, and a designation placed behind said opening, a slide D, one or more, for concealing said designation, said slide also bearing a designation, and a guide located on the exterior of the case tooverlap the slide and conceal the designation 011 the slide when the slide is moved to cover the sight-opening in the case or receptacle, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with a case or receptacle for cards or other articles, having a designating character, of a slide on the exterior of the case or receptacle, provided with out- IIGSSGS.
