FFICEQ MARY ETTA S'IOLI, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR I ONE-HALF TO El)- IVARD G. GENNER AND FRED. F. CLARK, 'JRIIS'IEE, llO'lII OI" SAME PLACE.
. VAPOR FACE-BATH.
SPECIFICATION taming, are Letters Patent No. 427,807, dated May 13, 1890. Application filed {November 23, 1889. Serial No. 331,398. (No model.)
To all whom it may comicrn:
Be it known that I, MARY ETTA SToLr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsyl- 5 Vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor Faced'laths; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specilication.
My invention consists in the improvements in vapor face-baths hereinafter set forth and explained, and illustrated in the accompanyine; drawings, in which- Figure 1. is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 view of the same is a sectioi.
in perspective, showing its internal construe tion.
Like letters refer to like parts in all the figures.
In the construction of my improved vapor face-bath shown, A is a case of wood or other suitable material adapted to inclose the mechanism hereinafter described, and 1; the cover thereof, the top 0 of the case A being cut away at an angle, as and for the purposes hereinafter set. forth, the sides 1) of the cover ll being also preferably cut at a like angle, so that when the cover *1 is closed down upon the case A it will present a sym metrical appearance. The sides E and bottom F of the case A, I line with sheet tin, zinc, or other suitable material or, and to the lining of the sides E, about one-third of the height of the case from the bottom I thereof. up, I secure a horizontal. ledge G, adapted to support a perforated shelf II thereon. This shelf II is cut away centrally, so as to receive a removable pan I n said opening, the remainder of the shelf Ii. around. the pan I being provided with numerous perforations h therein. 0n the bottom 1 of the case A, I place an alcohol-lamp J centrally under the pan I, so as to conveniently heat the same when desired. Near the top of the case A, I also secure a second ledge L, to the lining of the sides E thereof, upon which rests a removable deflector M, having a central. opening N therein, the sides of said deflector lli. inclining upward from the outer edges thereof toward the central opening N therein, so as to direct the heat of: the lamp .T and. y'apors arising from material placed in the pan I toward the central opening N thereof.
In operation I place fluid or other sub stance, medicated or otherwise, as desired, and adapted to give off vapor when heated, in the pan I. The lamp .I is then lighted and placed in position under the pan 1, so as to heat the contents thereof, the vapors thereof, together with the products of combustion from the lamp .1, which pass up through the holes 7L in the shelf II, intermingling as they rise, and being concentrated by the deflector M toward the opening N therein, pass out upward therefrom and come into contact with the face of the patient, held over and in close proximity to the opening N in the deflector M, the top (3 of the case A beingcut away at such an angle as to allow the patient to lean over and brine the face into near proximity with the openingN in the deflector M, without the body coming; in contact with the edge 0 of the case A.
llaving thus fully described my invention, so as to enable others to construct and use So the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of theluited States, is
I. In a 'apor-bath, the combination, with an open-topped box adapted to admit the hu man face, of a deflector secured around the sides of thebox, a lamp in the bottom of the box, and an open topped ova mating-pan sup )orted in the box between. the lamp and the deflector, substantially as and for the 0 purpose set forth.
2. In a vapor-bath, the combination, with an open-topped box having its upper edge cut away at an angle and adapted to admit the human face, of the metallic lining, the del'lector secured around the sides of the box, a lamp in vthe bottom of: the box, the perforated shelf between the lamp aud the deflector, and the open-toppm'l evaporating-pan supported by the said shelf, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimonywhereof I al'flx mysig'nature in presence of two witnesses.

LOUIS A'lyrrmei rr, Jr, 11. .l. Onn'rzn.
