METALLIC BUGGY-BED.

qPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,715, dated April 29, 1890.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. DEARTH, of Frankfort, in the county of Clinton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Metallic Buggy-Beds, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists in a new and improved metallic buggy or other vehicle bed, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. I

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 50, Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a transverse vertical sectional View taken on line y y of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional detail view of one corner of the vehicle-body.

The same numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Referring to the several parts by their designating-numerals, 1 indicates the bottom of the buggy-bed, 2 2 the sides, and 3 3 the ends.

The buggy-bed is formed of a single 'piece or sheet of metal, which is cut at the corners, and the ends and sides bent up and the corners lapped and fastened by being either brazed, riveted, or bolted together, as shown in-Fig. 5, as may be desired, or as is best adapted to different styles of vehicles.

The metal sides of the buggy-bed extend up near their center and have their upper edges bent in at right angles to form supporting-flanges 7 7, on which the buggy-seat is secured, as above stated.

The top edge of the buggy-bed is finished by being turned or lapped 0ver-doubled on itselfas shown in the sectional view,-Fig. at.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, the construction and advantages of my invention will be readilyunderstood.

My metallic buggy and other vehicle bed durable, and less complicated, and will give easier riding and less-noise when in use than any other buggy-bed made. It will stand far more abuse with less damaging effect than any wooden vehicle-bed can possibly stand.

The combination of the metallic bodyl 2 3, having the inwardly-bent top seat-flanges 7, and the wooden supporting and brace frame consisting of the sidebars, the cross-bars, and the uprights bolted to the metallic body, substantially as set forth.
