' (No Model.)
' R. STEVENSON.
' DOOR CHECK.
No, 426,339. Patented Apr. 22 1-890.
M WM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT STEVENSON, OF AXSLEY, XEBRASKA.
-DOOR-CHECK.
' SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 426,339, dated April 22, 1890.
dpplimtion filed February 8, 1890- Serial No. 339,672. (No model) To all whom it may concern,-
7 'Be it known that 1, ROBERT STEVENSON, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Ansley, in the county of Custer and State of Xe? braska, have invented certain new and useful ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to thedetters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door-securers of that class adapted to hold a door in any desired position and by which it may be securely fastened shut when desired.
The objects of the invention are to provide a sccurer cheap and simple in construction, especially adapted for use upon front doors of dwelling-houses, where it is desired to leave open the doors of the house for the admission of air, and at the ame time render it impossible for any one to enter the house, and for store-doors which open against the show-cases, by which the door may not hit the case and damage the same.
To these ends, and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel combination and in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and ,then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, like letters of reference indicating like parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door and its frame, showing my invention, the door being secured part way open. Fi 2 is a detail view of the spring-actuated catch, showing, the spring and catch exposed, the covering or housing being broken away.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A is a door of ordinary and well-known construction, and 13 its frame.
C is a semicircular metallic piece, preferably of brass, the ends of which D are bent inwardly and are secured to th frame of the door when in use. Upon the underside of the said piece are notches 0, adapted to receive a spring-actuated catch, hereinafter described.
E is a brace, preferably of metal, secured between the semicircular portion and the inwardly-bent ends of the same, and adapted to strengthen the securer. Upon the said semicircular piece is sleeved the adjustable block F,wl1ich block is provided with a thumbscrew G, by means of which it may be ad just-ed, and a triangular-shaped rubber H, against which thedoor' wiil'strike when open.
I is a metallic plate secured to the inner face of the door, upon the surface of which the spring-actuated catch J moyes. Said catch is provided upon one side with a notchj, adapted to hold the catch out'of its engagement with the semicircular piece C-when drawn down and pressed to the left, as will readily be seen.
Upon the opposite side of the catch is the.
notch j, against the shoulder of which one end of the spring K, which is preferably of coiled wire, rests, the other end of which spring bears against the covering or housing L of the catch.
)I is a suitable chain, by means the catch is operated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a door and its frame, of a semicircular metallic piece secured to said frame, provided with notches upon its under side adapted to receive a spring-actuated catch secured to the inner face of the door, and an adjustabie' block. sleeved upon said semicircular metallic piece adapted to limit the swing of the door, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
of which 2. The combination, with :1 door and its frame, of a semicircular metallic piece sccu red to said frame, provided with notches upon its under side, said notches having beveled sides for the reception of a spring-actuated catch secured to the inner face of The door, an ad- 3' ustable block sleeved upon saidlsemicircular piece providedwith a thumb-screw, as shown, 1 and a triangular-shapedrubber upon the inner face of said block, substantially as and for 5 the purpose specified. p F
, 3. The combination, with a door and its frame, of a semicircular metallic piece secured to said frame, provided with notches having beveled sides upon its under side adapted to 0 receive a spring-actuated catch, said catch 7 being provided with a notch to hold it out of engagement with'said semicircular piece, as
{ shown, and an adjustable block sleeved upon the semicircular piece provided with a thumbscrew and triangular-shaped rubber to liniit the swing of the door, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
