YARN-SEPARATO R FOR SPINNING-MACHINES SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,282, dated April 22, 1890.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE \V. KNIGHT, of Hopedale, county of WVorcester, State of Massachnsetts,have invented an Improvement in Yarn-Separators for Spinning-Machines, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention has for its obj eet to improve the supports for separators, so that they may be readily adjusted both longitudinally and vertically with relation to the spindle and bobbins thereon, to thus enable the separators I 5 to be properly applied to any usual spinningmachine and be put in correct working position with relation to the spindles and bobbins, this adjustment being necessary because of variations in distances between the usual spindles and the roller-beam of difiterent machines made in different manufactories.

My invention consists in a separator having a slotted supporting-arm combined with 2 5 a slotted stand, and with a bolt extended through the slots, whereby the arm and stand may be adjusted one with relation to the other, substantially as will be described.

Figure 1, in elevation and section, repre- 0 sents part of a spinning-machine of usual construction, together with a separator supported in accordance with my invention, so that the separator may be adjusted both vertically and horizontally in order to adapt it 3 5 to the position of the spindle with relation to the roller-beam; and Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged views of the separator, supportinging-arm, and stand, together with adjusting devices therefor.

The roller-beam A, on which rests the usual stand to sustain usual top rolls, (not shown,) the ring-rail B, the ring O, the spindle D, the bobbin E, the step-rail F, the guide-board G, the wire-board H, having the guide-eyes J,

are and may be all as usual.

In accordance with my invention I have attached the separator K, which in practice may be of any usual shape, to the supporting-arm L, the method of connection being substantially as in other separators prior to this invention.

To the roller-beam A, by a screw M,I have attached a stand N. The stand N is slotted longitudinally, as at a. The supporting-arm L has a slot Z), a bolt 0 being passed through the said slots (0 and Z). By loosening the nut (Z on the bolt 0 the arm L may be adjusted both vertically and horizontally, to thus place the separator in proper working position with relation to the spindle and bobbin, the dis- 6:) tance of the spindle and bobbin from the roller-beam varying in different machines.

To lessen strain upon the bolt 0, I have provided the arm and stand with a guiding means consisting, essentially, of a lip or rib, as g, herein shown as upon the stand, which lip is adapted to enter one of a series of grooves, as f, herein shown as cut parallel to each other at the inner side of the arm L, as best shown in. Fig.

I claim 1. A separator and its sup 'iorting-arm, the latter slotted as described, combined with the stand N slotted, as described, and with a bolt extended throughthe said slots, whereby the arm and stand may be adjusted one with relation to the other, substantially as described.

2. The separator, the roller-beam, the slotted stand N, a slotted arm L, and separator, combined with an adjusting device, as a bolt, extended through the slots in said arms, and guiding meansto lessen the strain upon the said bolt, substantiallyas described.
