JEWELERS STOCK-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming pari'. 0f Letters Patent N0. 426,059, dated April 22, 1890.
Application filed August 12, 1889. Serial No. 320,525. (No model.)
T a/ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. PLANCHAMP, a citizen of the United States, residingl at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jewelers Stockdlate, which are fully set forth in the following specieation, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure l shows my jewelers stock-plate in sectional elevation. Fig. 2 shows the same in plan.
Like letters of reference denote like parts.
The object of my invention is to construct an improved stock plate for watch case makers, jewelers, and like arts, in which varieties of forms and colors on the same plate may be displayed for the purpose of producing new and useful results, which I attain in substantially the following manner, namely:
I solder together on their edges plates of the desired metals of various colors, as shown in Figs. l and 2, in which the parts l 2 3 4. represent different pieces of metal, as gold, silver, oxidized silver, and oxidized gold, and again, and preferably, the said parts may consist of gold of various shades of colorssuch as can now be produced in the arts-and when said plates are soldered together at their edges they are rolled into plates of such desired thickness and area as may be required for the construction of an obj ect-as, forinstance, a watch-case.
A watchoase thus made will show varieties of metal and color in bands or spots, as the result may be, depending on the manner in which the stock-plate was formed, and such bands or spots will appear in substantially equal area and like forms in outline on both sides of the plate or case, which through said construction also shows that the metal is of the same nature from one side to the other of the watch-case. If, however, it is desired to make what is termed a filled case,I lay the said variegated plate upon the composition or base metal a intended to be used for the lilling and roll the said part-s together until they are of the required thickness and area, and then shape it, as before, into the desired ohject. In the last instance the said base metal would form the interior of the watch-case; but this may also be covered by a lighter covering of plate c, soldered to the filling and rolled out, and this interior plate may also be composed of patches of various colors ot metal constructed in the same manner as the outside of the case.
It is evident that the same varieties of metal of various colors may be produced in every other variety of jewelry in substantially the same manner.
l. The art or process of manufacturing jewelers party-colored stock-plate, which consists in uniting metals of various colors and forms on their horizontal edges only, so as to form a plate, and then rolling the same into sheets, substantially as specified.
2. A jewelers stockplate which consists of metals of various colors and united at their horizontal edges only for the purpose of ornamentation on both sides of the plate, substantially as speciiied.
