My invention relates to an improvement in toy-gun game apparatus; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved apparatus, showing the gun in a vertical position about to discharge the arrow. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, illustrating the arrow in flight and showing the gun in such position as to cause the arrow to descend 011 the target. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the gun.

On the gun-stock A, which is of suitable size and shape, is secured the barrel a, which has its breech in communication with a vertical opening 7c in the stock. A spring-catch K is arranged in the rear end of the barrel and is fastened to the stock, as shown, and the trigger f is pivoted on a rod or pin 19 and has an arm which is loosely attached to the catch. The usual guard is provided for the trigger.

Arranged in the barrel is a plunger-rod H, which has heads Z Z at its outer and inner ends. A coiled eXt-ensile spring I is arranged on the plunger-rod. The said spring bears between the head. .Z and a guide'staple m, which is driven into the upper side of the gunstock and astride of the plunger-rod. When the plunger-rod is driven back by the introduction of the arrow in the barrel, the spring is compressed and the head Z becomes engaged by the catch, thereby retaining the plunger-rod in its loaded position. By pressing the trigger the catch is released from the head of the plunger-rod and the latter is forced violently outward by the spring, thereby discharging the arrow.

The arrow F comprises the shaft h and the head I), inwhich are inserted a numbersay threeof feathers g. The feathers are illclined outward from each other, serve by resistance to the air to limit the flight of the arrow, and serve to direct the shaft ofthe arrow in a straight line when descending. The feathers also serve a useful purpose by blunting the head of the arrow to such an extent that a person accidentally struck by the arrowcould not possibly be injured by the same.

On one side of the gunstock is secured a circular target plate or disk O by means of screws or pins Q. The said target has a numher of openings 0, arranged in a circle and adapted to receive the shaft of the arrow on its descent. \Vithin the openings 0 and arranged concentric therewith are smaller openings e, which are still more difficult to strike. 7c In the center of the target is the bulls-eye D, which is a receptacle, preferably in the form of a beaver hat, so that the expression Shoot the hat is admissible when applied to this apparatus.

In playing the game the object is to discharge the arrow in a vertical direction and to catch the same in the bulls-eye or receptacle D on its descent, thus scoring a predetermined number of points. NVhen the arrow is caught in one of the openings 6, a smaller number of points is scored, and when the arrow is caught in one of the openings 0 a still smaller number of points is scored.

It requires great dexterity to successfully operate the apparatus, and the same will prove very amusing and entertaining.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The toy gun for shooting darts or arrows and having the target on one side of its stock, the said target comprising the circular plate 0, having the openings 0 e, arranged concentrically, and the receptacle D in the center of the plate, and preferably in the form of a 5 hat substantially as described.

As an improved article of manufacture, the toy gun for shooting darts 0r arrows, and comprising the stock A, the barrel with its rear end and lower side communicating with the opening 70 in the stock, the trigger f, arranged in the said opening the pin P, forming the trigger-pivot, the rod H in the barrel and having the heads L L, the coiled spring I on said rod, the staple m, driven into the stock astride of the rod,and the spring-catch g K, secured in the stock in the breech of the barrel and connected to the trigger, the said toy gun having the target on one side of its 10 stock, comprising the circular plate 0, with the concentric openings 0 e, and the recepta- FREDERICK F.
