Be it known that I, ALBERT \V. PAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oregon, in the county of Dane and State of Yisconsin, have invented a new and useful Mop, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to mops; and it has lfor its object to provide a device which shall be simple in construction,inexpensive, easily manipulated, and which shall keep the mopcloth stretched during operation and adapted to adjust itself upon the oor, walls, or ceiling where it may be used, and which may be conveniently used as a handle or holder for a brush adapted to be used either for brushing, scrubbing, dusting, or for blaeking stoves and the like.

Tit-h these ends in view the invent-ion consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved mop and brush handle orholder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the saine, showing a mop-cloth adjusted therein. in position for operation. Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken longitudinally through the same. Fig. al is a perspective view showing a brush secured in the handle or holder in position for operation.

A designates a handle of suitable dirnensions, to the lower end of which is secured a clamping device to which the ends of the mop-cloth are in practice attached. Said clamping device comprises a rectangular frame B, which may be constructed of wire or other suitable material, and to the upper side of which are hinged the legs of an in terior wire frame or bail C. Any other suitable claniping device may, however, be substituted for the one just described if it shall be found desirable to do so.

D designates a rectangular frame, which may be constructed of stout wire or other suitablematerial, which is bent so as to form an upwardly-extending shank E at the upper side of said frame and having an eye F encircling the handle A. The shank E is bent outwardly from the latter, so as to cause the eye F to bear against the said handle with a sufficient degree of friction to retain the slid ing frame D in any position to which it may be adjusted. The said handle A also has an enlarged or thickened portion G to aid in retaining the sliding frame D, which will move more freely at the points above and below the said enlarged or thickened port-ion.

H designates a retangular wire frame, the sides of which are formed with loops or eyes l I, whereby the said frame is mounted pivotally upon the lower or outer end of the sliding frame D, between the sides of which the said frame H is adapted to swing.

K designates the mop-cloth, which consists of a strip of suitable material, and which is attached to the holder by first doubling the said strip around the outer end of the pivoted frame H, then carrying the ends of the said strip under the outer end of the frame D, then over the inner end of the pivoted frame H, under the frame B at the end of the mophandle, up through the clampingframe C,

and back under the frame B. The frame C is then depressed, so as to retain the ends of the mop-cloth securely. The handle A is now moved downwardly through the eye F at the end of the rectangular frame D, thus carrying the ends of the mop-cloth over the upper or inner end of the swinging frame lfll. The device is then ready for operation. rlhe mopcloth, it will be seen, is stretched across the lower side of the pivoted rect-angular frame, which will readily adapt itself to any position of the handle, thus enabling rapid and effective work to be performed with my improved mop, either upon the floors, walls, ceilings, or windows, as the case may be. By drawing the handle in an upward direction the pivoted frame H may be permitted to swing around, and the handle may then again be pushed down to a position which enables the mopcloth to be conveniently wrung or twisted tightly around the said handle, or by drawing the handle to the extreme upper end of the sliding frame D the mop maybe wrung while in a slack position. The method of attachin g the 1nop-cloth herein described enables it to be conveniently removed for the purpose of washing or renewing the same, as circumstances may demand.

Vhen the device is to be used as a brush- IOO holder, a strip S, of suitable cloth, is substituted for the mop, merely for the purpose of holding the swingingframe II in the required position with relation to the handle. A brush of suitable construction (designated by letter R) may then be attached to the said swinging frame by means of turn-buttons 'l or clamping devices of any suitable construetion. Owing to the construction and arrangement of the pivote'd frame in which the brush is secured, the latter, like the mop, will readily adapt itself to any position of the handle, and may be used conveniently and effectively for any purpose for which a brush may be employed as a substitute for a mop.

My improved handle or holder is simple in construction, and may be manufactured at a small expense. It will be found to be ceedingly convenient in operation, and by its use l avoid the necessity of grasping the mop or brush with the hands.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent` l. The combination of a handle provided with a clamping-frame at its lower enda rectangular frame arranged to slide upon the said handle, and a rectangularframe mounted pivotally at the outer end of said sliding frame, substantially as and for the purpose Set forth.

2. The combination of the handle, the sliding fra-me, and a rectangular frame the sides of which are provided with loops or eyes, whereby it is mounted pivotally upon the outer end of the said sliding fra1nc,substan tially as set forth.

3. The combination, with the handle having the clamping-frame at its lower end, of the rectangular sliding` frame provided at its upper end with a shank having an eye encircling the said handle and a rectangular frame mounted pivotally upon the outer or lower end of said sliding frame, substantially as set forth.

4. The combination, with the handle having the clamping-frame at its lower end and provided with an enlarged or thickened portion, of asliding frame the upper end of which is provided with an outwardlyextending shank having an eye encircling the said handle and a rectangular frame mounted pivotally upon the lower end of said sliding frame, substantially-as set forth.

5. rPhe combination of the handle, the

clamping-frame comprising a rectangular frame and a bail mounted pivotally upon the upper side of the same, the rectangular sliding frame having an eye encircling the handle, and a rectangular frame the sides of which are provided with centrally-located loops or eyes, whereby it is mounted pivotally upon the lower end of the sliding frame, substantially as set forth.

6. The combination of a handle having a clamping-frame, a sliding rectangular frame, a rectangular frame mounted pivotally upon the lower end ot' said sliding frame, and a cloth doubled over one end of the pivoted rectangular frame and having its ends attached to the clamping-frame of the handle, substantially as set forth.

7. The combination of a handle, a sliding rectangularl frame, a rectangular frame mounted pivotally at the lower end of said sliding frame, a brush attached to the said pivoted frame, and a cloth connecting the latter with the handle, substantially as set forth.

S. The combination of a handle having a clamping-frame at its lower end, a sliding' frame having a shank provided with an eye encircling the handle, a rectangular frame the sides of which are provided with loops or eyes by which it is mounted pivotally upon the lower end of the sliding frame, a cloth doubled over one end of the pivoted frame and having its ends attached to the clamp ing-frame of the handle, and a brush mounted detachabl y in the pivot-ed frame, substantially 'as and for the purpose herein set forth.
