- BRICK MOLD. No. 414,918. Patented Nov. 12, 1889.
ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER PAUL, OF MEYERSDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
'BRICIK-MOLD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,918, dated November 12, 1889.
Application filed March 12, 1889. Serial No. 302,947. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER PAUL, of Meyersdale, in the 'county of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Brick-Press Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
' The invention relates to brick-pressing machines; and its object is to provide a new and improved press-box which is simple and durable inconstruction and so arranged as to take up all wear.
The invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts of the brick-press box, as hereinafter described'and claimed.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan View of theimprovement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 00 a: of Fig. 1. Fig. 4c is an end view of the same, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view the sides B and C.
of one of the ends.
The improved brick-press box A comprises the tWo sides B and O and the ends Dand E, fastened by the bolts F to the said sides B and O. Said bolts F pass through corresponding apertures formed in the sides and ends, as is plainly shown in the drawings. Each of the ends D and E *is provided with transversely-extending lugs or projections D or E, extending through the entire height of each end and fitting into corresponding grooves B and C, respectively, in the sides B and 0.
Instead of fastening the sides to the ends D and E by means of the bolts above described,
I may employ wedges G, passing through apertures H, formed in the lugs H,extending from the ends of the projections D and E, above described, and plainly shown in Fig. 5. Said lugs H project through apertures formed in (SeeFig. 2.) The wedges G project at both ends of the lugs H and pass into grooves I, formed on the outer surfaces of the sides B and O. Instead of employing either the bolts F or the wedges G, as above described, for fastening the sides and ends together, Imay employ both, as is plainly illustrated in the drawings.
At the ends of the projections D and E in the grooves B and O are placed strips or usual ears N for fastening the box on the bedplate of the brick-pressing machine.
The sides and ends are preferably made of cast-iron, steel, or other metal, and if made of cast-iron the faces of the sides and ends are to be chilled and the several parts are to be fastened together by bolts F. If the sides and ends are made of steel, they are put together with either bolts F or wedges K and keys G, as before described.
The liners J and the wedges K are removed when the sides and ends are worn out, and may be refitted by having their faces either planed or ground off and thinner additional liners or keys put in, so the box will be as good as new. The wedges K serve to hold the ends of the box tight in the grooves in the sides, and also to keep the strain 01f the bolts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A brick-press box comprising two-sides vertically grooved at their ends, two end pieces having tenons on their ends of less depth and width than said grooves, the securing-bolts, the strips J L, and the wedges K in the vertical end grooves between strips J L, substantially as set forth.
2. A brick-press box comprising the sides B 0, having vertical end grooves O and longi-' tudinal grooves I, the ends D E, each provided with a tenon, a transversely-apertured lug I-I, extending therefrom through the sides and grooves I, a wedge in said grooves and passing through said apertures, the bolts F, passing through the sides and ends above the lugs H, the strips J L, and the intermediate wedges K, substantially as set forth.
