UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE.
GUSTAVE ANDREEN, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
SH UTTER-WORKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 413,219, dated October 22, 1889.
Application filed July 1, 1 8 8 9.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAvE ANDREEN, a resident of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Proof Doors or Shutters, of which the following is hereby declared to be a full, clear, and exact description, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which said improvements relate to make and use the same.
. The invention relates to that class of heavy shutters or doors arranged to slide in front of Windows or other openings, and which are made of iron or other fire-proof material for protection against fire.
The invention has for its object to provide means whereby the shutter or door may be shifted in position along the rail, either back or forth, by means of the hose-stream directed against the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows an outside view of a shutter or door made in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof. 4
Each leaf or section of the door or shutter D is furnished with suitable hangers E, carrying rollers e, which travel upon the horizontal rail B, secured above the opening to be covered, .and the lower portion of the door will be guided by a suitable bottom rail B, in manner Well understood. Upon the front or outer face of each section D of the shutter or door is fixed a striker-plate A, that rises preferably from a base-plate a, secured to the door-section, this base-plate being conveniently extended at its top, as at a, so as to Serial No. 316,217. (No model.)
stream and either open or shut the same by the impact of the stream of Water without difliculty, since the door or shutter section slides easily upon its supporting-rail.
Having thus described the inventioinwhat I claim'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the supportingrail and with the door or shutter mounted to slide thereon, of the striker-plate projecting from said shutter or door and in position to receive the impact of the hose-stream,whereby the door or shutter may be shifted, substantially as described. 7
2. The combination, with the supporting rail and with the door or shutter mounted to slide thereon, of the strikenplate projecting from said shutter or door and having an overhang at its top to form a pocket or cavity against which a hose-stream may be directed to shift the door or shutter, substantially as described. V GUSTAVE. ANDREEN. WVit-nesses:
CHAS. A. Horn, JOHN HANANSON.
