Description

UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES B. RYAN, OF NElV YORK, IT. Y.
WIRE-MATTRESS BED-BOTTOM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,302, dated September 17, 1889.
Application filed August 13 1888. Serial No. 282,664. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES B. RYAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVire-ll/lattress Bed- Bottoms, of which the following is a specitimetal plate by means of coil-springs at the four angles of said plate, so that the said straps and rectangular plate shall sustain a portion of the weight on the mattress and the plate cover an area which is most liable to sag.
A represents the side rails, B the end rails, and F the woven-wire fabric, of an ordinary woven-wire-mattress bed-bottom.
G O O C represent strap metal braces, which respectively are attached to the corners of the mattress-frame at their outer ends, and at their inner ends are attached to the corners of a rectangular plate J by means of coil-springs I I I I, whereby, when weight is placed on the woven wire, the straps C and plate J will support a portion thereof, and at the same time yield with the mattress. The plate J may have any desired area, and for double beds the plate should have a greater area as compared with the size of the mattresses of single beds. This construction differs materially from other supports for wire mattresses in that the diagonal metal straps draw equally from the corners of the frame and connect with a central plate, which sup ports the woven wire where it is most likely to sag.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In woven-wire bed-b0ttoms, the combination of the rectangular central metal plate J, the metal straps 0, attached to the bed-frame at their outer ends and connected with the plate J by coil-springs, and the wire mattress lying 011 top of the plate and straps, as and for the purpose specified.
