ZiQUCMww-Z v gmwwto'c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HEBERT, oF LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA.
SCRUBBlNG-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 408,802, dated August 13, 1889. Application filed January 5, i888. Serial No. 259,869. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH I-IEBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lafayette, in the parish of Lafayette and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing-Machines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and usef ul improvements in scrubbing-machines; and it consists in a frame carrying a roller having flexible material on its outer surface and flexible material on the under side of the frame.
The obj ects of my invention will hereinafter more fully appearin the description and claim.
Referring to the drawings accompanying this application and forming part of the same, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a central transverse section, looking from the handle.
Similar letters refer to like parts throughout the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a frame that is formed with a bed-piece A',the under side of which is covered with some flexible material B, as sponge, rubber, wood, or any other suitable material, the purpose being to form a scrubber-surface, and from the upper face of said bed-piece A extend vertically two brackets 0, their outer ends being formed with an incline, on which is senaled,'bctween the arms of said frame, a roller E, the outer surface of which is covered with a similar flexible material to that 011 the under surface of bed-piece A, the purpose bein to scrub the floor of a room with the roller traveling in front of the bed-piece A acting as a mop, as the rollerE is constructed hollow and filled with water or suds.
The frame A is provided with suitable crosspieces, and the opposite end to the roller Eis provided with a handle F, by which the operator pushes the scrubber forward and backward over the floor of a house.
The material 13 is inserted in radial perforations E, which communicate with the interior of the roll E, which serve, besides their normal purpose of retaining the material in place, as outlets for the suds or water contained in the roll, whereby the scrubbing material is kept in a moist state. The suds or Water is introduced into the roll through a suitable aperture made in the roll, in which a cork or stopper, as c, is placed, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the scrubbing device herein described, consisting of the bed-piece A, having scrubbing material B on its under side and provided on its upper face with standards G, the inclined frame D, supported on the standards, the handle F, and the hollow roll E, for containing suds, journaled in the lower end of the frame and formed with radial perforations leading into the interior thereof, in which is secured the scrubbing material, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH TIEBERT.
