Application filed March 12, 1888. Serial No. 267,052. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN LUDWIG MUELLER, a subject of the King of Saxony, and a resident of Schandau, Saxony, Germany, have invented a newand useful Advertising- Lid for Beer-Glasses, &c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to covers or lids for beer-glasses, drinking-cups, or the like; and it consists in a cover of improved construction suitable for the display of advertisements.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of a goblet with loose cover, the coverbeing closed and placed on the goblet. Fig. 2 is a vertical section showing the cover opened for insertion or removal of sheets or leaves containing advertisements. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the closed cover. Fig. l is a vertical section of a modification, in which a central crossbar replaces the hinged cover and the device holding the ad- \'*ertisement-sheets is detachable. Fig. 5 is a plan view thereof.
The cover consists, essentially, of a plate, D, of size and shape required to cover the respective cup or glass. On this cover is fixed a removable or stationary pin, K, upon which the advertisement-sheets are held, and which may serve as a hinge or pivot to the latter.
To hold sheets upon the pin, a cover, 0, is provided, which, as in Fig. 1, may be a whole cover hinged and folding onto flanges B at the edge of the plate D, and having a central glass window, a, or may be a bar hinged or connected to the cover and extending across the sheets onto the end of the pin K.
In Fig. 4 the plate 0 is made with the plate 2 out of one piece of metal bent round so as to form a V-shaped spring-bow, one arm of which is the plate 0 and the other arm the plate 2 The latter is flat to lie upon the top of the lid D, and on its under surface are made the tongues h 72, engaging in the slots '2' i in the cover, and holding the V-clip in place. In this case the pin K is fastened 011 the upper side of the plate .2, and projects upward into or through a slot in the plate 0. On the pin K is pivoted a number of advertising-disks adapted to be folded together under the plate 0 and. normally held in such position by a depression; 2, or equivalent, in or under the plate I claim 1. A cover for goblets, beer-glasses, and the like, comprising, in combination, an under plate, D, forming a cover to said goblet or the like a in K thereon ada ted to receive ad.-
vertising-sheets, and a plate, 0, adapted to cover and retain said advertising-sheets.
2. A cover for goblets, beer-glasses, and the like, comprising, in combination, an under plate, D, forming a cover to said goblet or the like, a pin, K, thereon, adapted to receive advertising-sheets, and a cover-plate, 0, attached to said plate D and projecting over said pin K, so as to hold the sheets thereon, substantially as set forth.
The combination, with aplate, D, adapted to form a cover to a goblet, beer-glass, or the like, of slots in said plate, a plate, 2, tongues on said plate 2, engaging in said slots, aprojecting pin, K, on said plate 2, and a plate, 0, integral with said plate .2, and extending over the same and over the said pin K, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination, with aplate, D, adapted to form a cover to a goblet, beer-glass, or the like, of slots i in said plate, a spring-bow formed, substa 'fifily, by two parallel plates, 2 C, tongues T 11 said plate 2, adapted to engage in said sl s i, a pin, K, projecting from said plate 2', nd a recess, 2, in the plate 0, adapted to cover said pin, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two snbscribing witnesses.
