AMBROSE DIEFFENIACII, OF DEVILS LAKE, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
G RAIN-ELEVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 394,560, dated December 18, 1888.
Application led June 2, 1888. Serial No.275,825. (No model.)
To all whom, t 77060;/ concern.'
Be it known that I, AMBRosE DIEFFEN- BACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Devils Lake, in the county of Ramsey and Territory of Dakota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grain-Elevators, ot which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in grain-elevators adapted to be used in connection with tanning-mills; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my grain-elevator, showing the same attached to a tanning-mill. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved grain-elevator. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of thesame.
A represents the case of the mill, which is ot' the usual construction, and B represents the semi-cylindrical t'an-case,which is arranged on one end of the frame A in the usual manner.
C represents the frame of the elevator, which comprises a pair of side beams or boards, D, and a pair of cross-bars, E,which connect said beams or boards near the ends thereof. Journaled between the lower ends ot' the said beams or boards is a roller, F; and G represents a similar roller, which is journaled between the upper ends of said boards orbeams. The spindle at one end of said roller G is eX- tended beyond one side of the elevator-frame, and to the said spindle is rigidly secured a pulley, H.
I represents an endless elevator-belt, which passes over the rollers F G, and is provided with a series of cross cleats or iiights, K, each of which is made of a single piece ot' angleiron, having one side secured to the outer side of the endless belt or apron and the other side projecting at right angles from said apron. The said cleats or 'ights are secured at a suitable distance apart.
To the outer end ot' the elevator-frame is secured a trough or spout, L, which is of the form here shown, is stamped orbent from a single piece of sheet or plate metal, and has a hopper, M, at its lower end, to which hopper the mouth ofa bag or sack is adapted to be at: tached. A pair ot' supporting-legs, M', have their upper ends pivoted to the outer end of the elevator-frame, and are thereby adapted to be folded against the sides ot` the 'frame when not in use.
The elevator-trame has its lower end secured to the frame A at a point below the fan-case by means ot' metallic straps N, and said elevator-frame is also secured to the fan-case by means ot similar metallic straps, O, the elevator-traine being supported in an inclined position by the legs M.
P represents an endless belt, which connects the pulley ll with a pulley on the end of the fan-shaft, whereby the rotation ot' the said fan will be communicated to the upper roller, G, and thereby cause the endless belt or elevator to move in the direction indicated by the arrows in Fig. 2, and consequently carry the grain which is discharged from the tanning-mill to the sack or bag.
Having thus described my invention, I Claim- The combination ot' the frame I), the rollers F G at the inner and outer ends thereof, the latter having the pulley H, the endless apron connecting the rollers, the transverse cleats or iiights K, made ot' angle metal, and each having one side secured to the apron and the other side arranged at right angles thereto, the straps N t), connecting the inner end of the frame to the mill-case, the dischargespout L at the outer end of the frame, and having the hopper M, and the belt connecting the pulley H to the pulley on the fan-shaft, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMBROSE DIEFFENBACH.
