UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. BRENNAN, OF SHULLSBURG, WISCONSIN.
TRACE-BEARER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,309, dated November 6, 1888.
' Application filed June 15, 1828. Serial Naaimso. (No model.)
To aZZ whom) it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES H. BRENNAN, of Shullsburg, in the county of Lafayette and State of VVisconsin', have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trace-Bearers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in tracebearers, and seeks to provide certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, whereby the lower end of the round trace-bearing loop is strengthened and IG-QllfOICQd, and its connection with the supporting strap or skirt is rendered more secure.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tracebearer provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the reenforcing plate; and Fig. 3 is asection on line as m, Fig. 1.
The strap A forms the support, and may be the skirt-strap .of a harness-saddle. To the support I fix the upper end of the loop-strap B, which strap is preferably rounded at its looped portion, as shown. The re-enforcing plate 0 fits and is secured within the lower portion of the bearer-loop and receives in use the wear of the trace, as will be readily seen, the main portion of the plate being properly curved, as shown. This plate O, as shown, is formed with a main or curved portion, O', provided at its upper end with a clamp lug or lugs, 0 preferably projected from its oppo site sides, which lugs may be bent over the loop-strap, as shown in Fig. 1, to secure the strap to the plate, the plate being grooved at C to receive such strap. The base portion or extension 0*, at the lower end of the plate 0, is perforated for the passage of the rivet D, which secures the lower end of the bearer-loop to the skirt or support A, and alsosecures the re-enforeing plate and the billet-strap E. Preferably the portion 0 is grooved or recessed at G to receive the end of the bearer-strap and 5 of the billet E, and slotted at C for stitches extending between said straps and the skirt, in order to hold the straps down tightly within the recess 0 It will be seen that the re-enforce, in addition to being useful in new work, may also be employed to great advantage in repairing work.
The plate may be made of malleable metal, and be nickel-plated, japanned, or otherwise suitably ornamented.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp 1. The improved" reenforce plate for tracebearers, consisting of the main or curved portion provided at its upper end with the clamp lug or lugs free at one end, whereby they may be bent around the loop-strap, and the base portion or extension projected from the lower end of the main portion and grooved or recessed in its outer side to receive the end of the bearer-strap and of the billet, substantially as set forth.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a re-enforee plate for round trace-bearers, con sisting of the base portion 0 and the main portion 0, extended at its lower end from the extreme upper end of the base portion, such main portion being curved longitudinally and having in its outer side a rounded groove fitted to receive the round trace-bearer strap, substantially as set forth.
3. Theimproved're-enforcing plate for round bearer-straps, consisting of the base portion 0, recessed in its outer side andprovided with slots 0 O, and the main portion 0, having a longitudinal rounded groove, 0 and provided at its upper end with lugs 0 such portion 0 being curved, substantially as set forth.
JAMES H. BRENNAN.
