3 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures DEVICE FOR HANGING CLOTHES, SUCH AS TROUSERS OR SKIRTS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to an elastically expanding clothes hanging device, of the type comprising a hanging deformable structure of wire, shaped so as to provide at the two sides of a central hook element of suspension, two slanting branches diverging downward and extending into two arms pointing in opposite directions and lying on the same plane, said arms carrying means adapted to grip the clothes on corresponding opposite parts of the same.

2. Description of the Prior Art In the already known devices of this type, the gripping means for the garment to be hung have always been mounted fixed at the free ends of said arms or apt, at the best, to slightly oscillate thereon, and this provided a considerable drawback in that, in order to adapt the clothes hanger to the dimensions of the garment to be hung, one could merely rely on the elasticity of the deformable structure of the device. If this was more than sufficient in some cases, it determined in other cases as may be easily understood, an overstress on the parts of the garment held by the gripping means of the device, or else it prevented the garment from being hung.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Such drawbacks are fully eliminated by the hanging device according to the present invention, characterized in that the means adapted to grip the garments are mounted sliding on the arms of the device, along which they may translate with possibility to be locked on the arms themselves in any suitable selected position.

Preferably, the said gripping means, formed by fork or tongue elements, outwardly notched, are mounted by providing in the head of such means a transversal through hole for receiving the arm of the device and a longitudinal dead hole apt to house an outwardly threaded pin on which is screwed a wing nut, said pin having a transversal hole which also receives the arm of the device.

The invention will now be described in detail with reference to a preferred embodiment thereof, shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS With reference to the drawings, the device according to the present invention comprises a structure in a single piece of elastically deformable wire, apt to be hanged, comprising a hook element 1 of suspension,

According to the invention, the garments gripping means 8 comprise a head 9, mounted onto the

6, 7, and actual gripping parts connected to the head and pointing downwards, said parts comprising, in the case of trouser-hangers (FIGS. 2 and 4), forks 10 having a notched outer edge (11), and in the case of skirthangers (FIGS. 3 and 5), a tongue or pin 12 also with a notched outer edge.

The head 9 of such elements comprises a solid body having a transversal through hole 13, into which penetrates, the arm 7 (or the arm 6) of the device. The head 9 can slide along the said arm in both directions. The solid body of the head 9 comprises also a longitudinal dead hole 14, which is apt to house a pin 15, projecting with its threaded end from the upper part of the head 9 and being provided, at its opposite end, with a transversal through hole 18 in which is inserted the arm 7 (or the arm 6) of the device, as clearly shown in FIG. 3. The gripping means are completed by a wing nut 16 which screws onto the threaded part of the pin 15.

Obviously, in use, when the wing nut 16 is loose or is loosened, the head 9 is free to slide along the arm 7 (or the arm 6), and to be brought or arranged in the wanted position, in which it may be easily locked firmly by merely tightening the wing nut 16, which brings into contrast the various parts of the head 9 with the arm 7 (or the arm 6).

Though simple in conception and easy to carry out, the invention provides sure and remarkable advantages in the field of clothes hangers. of the type involved, in that it allows to suitably choose the distance between the garments gripping means, according to the articles of clothing to be hung and to their size, and to adapt this distance to the size of the garments, so that such garments may be hung by imparting an elastic action sufficient to keep the garment safely suspended (and eventually, well stretched and. in shape), but not high to such an extent that it will damage the garment itself or that it will anyhow make its insertion in the device difficult. In this way, it is possible to use the same hanging device for different types and sizes of trousers or skirts (or other garments), with evident practical and economic advantages, by merely providing to adjust the gripping means of the device itself whenever switching from one garment to the other.

I claim:

1. A device for hanging clothes comprising a hanging deformable wire structure defining two slanting branches diverging downwardly and extending into two arms pointing in opposite directions which lie in the same plane and gripping means slidably mounted and lockable on each of said arms, each said gripping means comprising an element outwardly notched, a head attached to said element having a transverse through hole for receiving one of said arms and a longitudinal threaded dead hole, an outwardly threaded pin fitting within said dead hole having a transverse hole for receiving one of said arms and a winged nut threadably mounted on said threaded pin.

2. The device of claim 1 in which said notched element is in the shape of a tongue.
