Description

` UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICEo EBERHARD FABER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PENCIL ERASER AND STAMP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 38,@92, dated June 16, 1863.
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat I, EBEEHARD FABER, ot the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combination of a Lead-Pencil, India-Rubber Pencil-Mark Eraser, and a Stamp; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a view of my invention partly in s ction; Fig. 2, an external view ofthe same; Fig. 3, an end view of the same, showing a face view of the stamp.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding' parts in the several tigures.
This invention consists in placing and securing on one end of an ordinary Woodencased lead-pencil a knob or piece of india-rubber, the latter being of such dimensions that it will serve as an eraser of the pencil-marks, and of such a form that it will also serve as a seal or stamp, and at the same time prevent the pencil from rolling oft from the table or desk.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represen ts an ordinary Wooden-cased leadpencil, on one end of which aknob or piece of india-rubber, B, is secured in any proper Way. The end of the pencil may have a tenon, a, i
cut or formed on it to nt into the rubber B, the latter being cemented or glued on the tenon. The rubber B, at 4its outer end, is ot square or rectangular form, as shown at b, Figs. 2 and 3, and the other part, c, of the rubber is of inverted conical form, the inner end of the part c being equal in diameter to ihe pencil A, said part gradually expanding toward b, as shown in Figs. -l and 2. The outer end, b, ofthe rubber should'be ofsufiicient area to serve the purpose of a seal or stamp, and its face or outer side may be creased in diamond form, as shown in Fig. 3. or have any appropriate or desired design formed on it. Said end b, in consequence of being square or of rectangular form, prevents the pencilf'rom rolling ott from a table or desk. v
I do not claim, broadly, the application ot' ubber heads to lead-pencils; but,
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent as an improved article of manufacture- A leadpencil provided with an angulated rubber seal-head, as herein shown and described, Which serves as a seal, a preventer against rolling, and as an eraser, all as set forth.
EBERHARD FABER.
