FRUIT-HOLDING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 386,604, dated July 24, 1888.
Application filed June 1. 1887. Serial No. 239.945.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. WV. PLACE, of San Mateo, in the county of Putnam and State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Fruit-Holding Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention consists in the construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a central sectional elevation of the fruit-holding device.
In the base A is fixedly secured the spindle B, which is pointed at the upper end. The base A is formed with the outer flange, a, and the central raised portion, 1), in which the spindle B is secured.
An orange to be peeled is impalcd on the spindle B, as indicated in dotted lines in the figure, and with a suitable knife (not shown) the rind of the orange is slitted or divided into parts corresponding to the sections of the orange.
Any juice that may escape from the fruit (No model.)
will pass into the annular groove 0, formed by the outer flange, a, and the raised central portion, I), of the base.
It will be seen that with the device above described thejuice of the orange will not soil the hands or clothes, as the very little of it that may escape will run into the groove 6 in the base A.
With the aid of this device oranges may be arranged to have a very pretty effect in decorating dining-tables.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device for use in removing the rind from oranges, a holder comprising the base A, formed with the raised portion Z), the flange a, and the intermediate juice-receiving groove, 6, and the spindle B, projecting up from said raised portion, substantially as set forth.
