7 Claims, 1 Drawing Figure 1 ADJUSTABLE SINKER CAMS ON CIRCULAR KNITTING MACHINE The invention concerns adjustable sinker plates on circular knitting machines which are secured on a slide and provided with an adjusting part arranged on an adjusting screw.
An adjustable sinker part, secured on a slide is already known which is, on the one hand, under the action of an adjusting screw and on the other hand, under the action of a spring.
A disadvantage of this adjustable sinker part is that the spring of this force-closed connection is susceptible to trouble, it gets stuck or breaks.
Form-closed adjustable sinker parts are also known where the adjusting screw has a guide groove for the slide driver. I
But these do not permit fine adjustments, since only the-pitch of the adjusting screw is used for the adjustment. For the cylinder and disklock, however, this solution is not suitable because of the poor accessibility and the great space requirement, since the adjustment of the sinker parts is effected in the direction of motion of the adjusting screw. In addition, the total adjustment of the slide is only achieved by rotating the adjusting screw repeatedly so that fine adjustments are obtained. If these are to be avoided, an additional revolution indicator is required.
It is the object of the invention to produce troublefree inexpensive adjustable sinker parts with'favorable utilization of space.
The invention is based on the problem of providing adjustable sinker parts which are form-closed (i.e., which do not rely on resilient means to maintain contact, but are permanently in closely abutting relationship) and permit an accurate and sensitive microadjustment during a revolution of the adjusting screw, which can be used equally for cylinder and disk locks by a favorable utilization of the space.
This is achieved according to the invention by providing a circular knitting machine which has a sinker plate slide mounted for sliding movement in a guide and in face to face relationship with a lock support, a screw threaded passageway in said lock support, an adjusting screw threaded in said passageway said passageway opening to the interface of said support and slide, a passageway formed in said slide and inclined to said guide, said slide passageway opening to the interface of said support and slide and registering with the lock support passageway, an adjusting member carried by said screw and disposed in said slide passageway and having surface abutting each side of said slide passageway whereby when the adjusting member is moved in opposite directions by said screw the slide is moved in opposite directionsin said guide by the interaction of the adjusting member and said sides of the slide passageway.
An advantageous arrangement for the accurate sensitive microadjustment is achieved in this way by having the angle of the passageway of the slide to the axis of the slide which is parallel to slide guides between 30 and 60.
Manufacture is simplified by forming the passageway in a part separable from the remainder of the slide.
in order to obtain the necessary adjusting path in a revolution of the adjusting screw, the pitch in the bore of the cylindrical part is opposite to the pitch of the bore in the lock support, and the adjusting screw is provided with a knob with a scale division.
ln order to secure the position of the adjustable sinker parts, a locking screw is arranged in the lock support for the adjusting screw.
An embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying' drawing which is a cross sectional view of a part of the machine incorporating the adjusting mechanism of this invention.
The adjustable sinker cam parts 1, 2 are rigidly connected with a slide 3 which is guided between the lock support 4 and the overlap 5 of the fixed lock barrel. The slide 3 is provided with a recess or passageway 6 which is arranged in a certain angle to the axis of the slide 3 and which is spatially defined. In the recess 6 is arranged a formclosed displaceable adjusting part 7, i.e., a part which has positive contact with the recess as it moves in both directions rather than being spring loaded in one direction to maintain contact. The adjusting part 7 is provided with a cylindrical part 8 for guidance in a bore 9 in the lock support 4.
The adjusting part 7 with its cylindrical part 8 has a threaded bore 10. In the lock support 4 is also arranged a smaller bore 11 with a thread'to support the adjusting screw 12. The pitch in bore 10 of the cylindrical part 8 is opposite to the pitch in bore 11. On the adjusting screw 12 is arranged a knob 13 with scale division. A locking screw 14 is provided to secure the adjusted position of the adjusting screw 12.
In order to reduce the costs for the production of the recess 6 in the slide 3, the latter consists at least of one screwed-on part 15 and/or 16.
The adjustment of the sinker parts I, 2 secured on the slide 3 is effected by turning the knob 13. Due to this rotation, the adjusting screw 12 displaces the adjusting part 7, because of the opposite pitch of the bores 10, 11. This movement is transmitted in both directions through a recess 6 in the slide 3. Since the recess 6 is arranged in a certain angle to the axis of the slide 3, the movement of the slide 3 and thus of the sinker parts 1, 2 is effected perpendicularly to the direction of motion of the adjusting screw 12.
A variation of the inclination of the recess 6 and of the fineness of the threads in the bores 10, ll permits a variation of the micro-adjustment of the sinker parts.
What is claimed is:
l. A circular knitting machine comprising a sinker plate slide mounted for sliding movement in a guide and in face to face relationship with a lock support, a screw threaded passageway in said lock support, and adjusting screw threaded in said passageway said passageway opening to the interface of said support and slide, a passageway formed in said slide and inclined to said guide, said slide passageway opening to the interface of said support and slide and registering with the lock support passageway, and adjusting member carried by said screw and disposed in said slide passageway and having surface abutting each side of said slide passageway whereby when the adjusting member is moved in opposite directions by said screw the slide is moved in opposite directions in said guide by the interaction of the adjusting member and said sides of the slide passageway.
2. A circular knitting machine according to claim 1 wherein said passageway in said slide is inclined to said guide at an angle of between 30 and 60.
3. A circular knitting machine according to claim 1 6. A circular knitting machine as claimed in claim 1 wherein said adjusting member is threadedly mounted on said adjusting screw.
7. A circular knitting machine as claimed in claim 6 wherein the adjusting screw is mounted in said lock support by threads of one hand and the adjusting member is mounted on said screw by threads of the other hand.

Claims (7)

1. A circular knitting machine comprising a sinker plate slide mounted for sliding movement in a guide and in face to face relationship with a lock support, a screw threaded passageway in said lock support, and adjusting screw threaded in said passageway said passageway opening to the interface of said support and slide, a passageway formed in said slide and inclined to said guide, said slide passageway opening to the interface of said support and slide and registering with the lock support passageway, and adjusting member carried by said screw and disposed in said slide passageway and having surface abutting each side of said slide passageway whereby when the adjusting member is moved in opposite directions by said screw the slide is moved in opposite directions in said guide by the interaction of the adjusting member and said sides of the slide passageway.
2. A circular knitting machine according to claim 1 wherein said passageway in said slide is inclined to said guide at an angle of between 30* and 60*.
3. A circular knitting machine according to claim 1 wherein the adjusting screw is provided with a knob said knob being provided with scale divisions.
4. A circular knitting machine according to claim 1 wherein a locking screw is arranged in the lock support for locking the adjusting screw.
5. A circular knitting machine as claimed in claim 1 comprising means for locking said slide in an adjusted position.
6. A circular knitting machine as claimed in claim 1 wherein said adjusting member is threadedly mounted on said adjusting screw.
7. A circular knitting machine as claimed in claim 6 wherein the adjusting screw is mounted in said lock support by threads of one hand and the adjusting member is mounted on said screw by threads of the other hand.
