UNITED STATES PATENT Unison.
ALBERT O. ROSENGRANZ, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,283. dated June 12, 1888.
Application tiled April 6,1888.
To all whmn, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT O.ROSENCRANZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in plows; and the nature of my invention consists in a novel mode of locking the plowshare to the landside and standard, whereby the share is held rigidly against an upward and downward strain.
The gist of my invention lies in the peculiar manner of locking the gunnel of the share to the landside, together with a peculiar mode of securing the standard to the landside, all of which will be fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a bottom view thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the outer side of the landside-plate,showing the female recess for locking the share to this plate. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the inner side of the plate of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the share and the male interlocle ing portion. Fig. 6 is a land-side view of the standard.
Referring to the annexed drawings, G desighates the landside. On the outerside and for ward end of the landside 1 form a recess, B, the contour of which is adapted to support the share and to form a lock-joint, as will be hereinafter fully explained. On the inner side of this laudside 1 form a projection, D, to fit a similar depression, ID, in the standard, and a flange or rib, (Z, to support the lower edge, f, of the standard E, and a lip or flange, 0, adapted to fit a recess, 6, on the standard.
Now, it will be seen from the above description that I extend the share-guunel into a recess of the landside, thus giving a bearing for the upper edge of the said gunnel, and thus I resist the strain when the point of the share is depressed. At the same time the projection b, which extends into the recess a of the share, holds the plowshare firnilyin position against an upward pressure. The lower edge, f, of the standard E rests upon the rib (1, thus making a rigid connection between the landside and standard by the use of a Single bolt, (indicated by the letter h on Figs. 2 and 4.)
It will be finally observed that-the share and landsidearecombined in such manner that the landside is rigidly held against lateral strain by reason of the extended gunnel. The hearing of the under side of theshare is on the lip c of the laudside, and on the foot of the stand ard, to which it is secured by a bolt, 9.
Having described my inveniiomwhat I claim as new, and desi re to secure by Letters Patent, 1s*
1. A plowshare having a landside or guunel with a notched and rounded or recessed rear portion, a, adapted to fit into a landside having a recess and a counterpart lug, forming a lock-joint, substantially as described.
2. .A landside recessed at B, pointed and provided with a lug, b, and a lip or flange, 0, having a base flange or rib, (Z, and an extension, 1), adapted to enter the recess D of the standard E, as shown and described.
3. The combination of the standard E, pointed and recessed, as described, with aplowshare having a gunncl notched at a, and with a landside having a recess, B, a counterpart ing, 1), and an extension, D, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBE RT 0. ROSENCR- ANZ.
