MOBITZ STIEBRITZ AND ADOLPH MILLER, OF SOHUETZEN PARK, NEW YORK.
UT ENSlL-HEAD FOR CANES, 84C.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 383,598, dated May 29, 1888.
(No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
- Be it known that we, ,Moarrz STIEBEITZ and ADoLrH MILLER, of Schuetzen Park, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Utensil-I-Ieads for Canes, &c., of which the following is a full, clear and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide heads for canes, umbrellas, and kindred ariicles, which can be conveniently and safely used for holding and striking matches, and to contain a mirror, photograph, or the like.
The invention consists of a novel construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully described, and as distinctly claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a utensil cane-head embodying ourimprovement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the'same in a different adjustment.
The body A of the utensil-head is made hollow, and, by preference, tapering toward is lower end, which is open to lit over the buttend of the stick B of the cane or umbrella, so that a box will be formed having a flaring mouth and forminga convenient receptacle for matches. A lid, 0, adapted to closethe mouth of the matchbox, is jointed thereto bya hinge, D, and said lid 0 is formed with an inwardlyprojectingperipheral flange, E, adapted to enter the mouth of the box tightly and hold the cover closed, and also to form a circular recess to receive and hold a circular coverlate, F. The plate Fis adapted, also,to close the mouth of the box, and is jointed thereto at the same point'as the lid-hinge D, so that the said plate can be swung down to cover the matches in the box while the lid is open, or can be swung upward into the lid.
The outer face of the plate F may be covered, as sho\vn,.with a layer, G,of sand-paper,
or other substance on which matches can be easily ignited, or said igniter may be applied to the interior of the lid 0. In either case the plateF must first be swung down, thereby V Photographsor the like may be substituted for the mirror, if desired.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. The herein described utensilhead for canes and the like, consisting of a box for matches, an outside lid for the same, an inner cover, and a match-igniter outside the inner cover, all combined and arranged substair tially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a utensil-head for canes and the like, the combination of a hollow body adapted to be attached to a cane-stick or the like, and to form a box for matches, and an inner cover, and an outside lid hinged at a common point to the box, the inner cover arranged to hold a mirror or photograph on its inner face and a match-igniter on its outer face, and the outside lid adapted to receive and hold the inner cover, substantially as described.
