Abstract

A lightweight boat moving device for a boat having a substantially planar stern comprises a pair of legs each having a wheel rotatably mounted at one end thereof. Fastening devices affixed to the stern of the boat secure the legs in spaced parallel relation in a first position in which the legs extend below the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance below the bottom of the boat and a selected second position in which the legs extend above the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance above the stern of the boat.

More particularly, the invention relates to a device for moving a lightweight boat on land under the power of a single man.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a lightweight boat moving device of simple structure, which is easy, convenient, simple and facile to use and which enables a single man to move a boat with case on land.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front view of an embodiment of the lightweight boat moving device of the invention mounted on the stern of a boat;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the embodiment of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is an exploded view of half of the embodiment of FIG. 1.
In the F IGS., the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The boat moving device of the invention is for a lightweight boat 1 (FIGS. 1 and 2) having a substantially planar stem 2 (FIG. I). The moving device of the invention comprises a pair of legs 3 and 4 (FIG. 1) each having a wheel 5 and 6, respectively (FIG. 1) rotatably mounted at one end 7 and 8, respectively, thereof.
Each of the legs 3 and 4 has a pair of spaced holes therethrough, one in the area of the other end 9 and 10, respectively, thereof (FIG. 1), and the other in the area of the center thereof. Thus, as shown in FIG. 3, the leg 3 has one hole 11 therethrough in the area of its other end 9 and another hole 12 therethrough in the area of its center.
A fastening arrangement affixed to the stem 2 of the boat I secures the legs 3 and 4 in spaced parallel relation in a selected first position in which the legs extend below the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels 5 and 6 are a predetermined distance below the bottom of the boat, as shown in FIG. 1 and by solid lines in FIG. 2, and a selected second position in which the legs extend above the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance above the stern of the boat, as shown by broken lines in FIG. 2.
The fastening arrangement comprises a pair of spaced parallel elongated L angle members 13 and 14 (FIG. 1). Each angle member 13 and I4 comprises a pair of elongated narrow plates l5, l6 and I7, 18, respectively, at right angles to each other. The plate 15 of the angle member 13 and the plate 17 of the angle member 14 are affixed to the stem 2 of the boat 1 by any suitable means such as, for example, nuts and bolts, of which bolts 19, 20 and 21 and nuts 22, 23 and 24 for the plate 15 of the angle member 13 are shown in FIG. 3.
The other plate 16 of the angle member 13 and the other plate 18 of the angle member 14 each have three spaced holes therethrough, of which only those of the angle member 13 are shown (FIG. 3). A first hole 25 is in the area of one end 26 thereof (FIG. 3). A second hole 27 is in the area of the other end 28 thereof (FIG. 3). A third hole 29 is in the area of the center thereof (FIG. 3).
A pair of pins is provided for each angle member 13 and 14. Thus, the angle member 13 has a pair of pins 30 and 31, preferably chained together to avoid loss and a pair of pins 32 and 33 preferably chained together to avoid loss. The pins 30, 31, 32 and 33 removably affix each leg 3 and 4 to a corresponding one of the angle members 13 and 14, via the holes of the legs and angle members, in the first position, in which the two holes 11 and 12 of the leg 3, for example, are in alignment with the first and third holes 25 and 29 of the angle member 13, for example, shown in solid lines in FIGS. 1 and 2, and in the second position, in which the two holes 11 and 12 of the leg 3, for example, are in alignment with the second and third holes 27 and 29 of the angle member 14, for example, shown in broken lines in FIG. 2.
While the invention has been describedby means of specific examples and in specific embodiments, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A lightweight boat moving device for a boat having a substantially planar stern, said moving device comprising a pair of legs each having a wheel rotatably mounted at one end thereof, each of the pair of legs having a pair of spaced holes therethrough, one in the area of the other end thereof and the other in the area of the center thereof; and
fastening means affixed to the stern of the boat for securing the legs in spaced parallel relation in a selected first position in which the legs extend below the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance below the bottom of the boat and a selected second position in which the legs extend above the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance above the stern of the boat, the fastening means comprising a pair of spaced parallel plates affixed at right angles to the stern of the boat, each having three spaced holes therethrough, a first in the area of one end thereof, a second in the area of the other end thereof and a third in the area of the center thereof, and pin means for removably affixing each leg to a corresponding one of the plates via the holes thereof in the first posi tion in which the two holes of each leg are in alignment with the first and third holes of each plate and in the second position in which the two holes of each leg are in alignment with the second and third holes of each plate.

A lightweight boat moving device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fastening means comprises a pair of spaced parallel elongated L angle members each comprising a pair of elongated narrow plates at right angles to each other, one plate of each angle member being affixed to the stern of the boat and the other plate comprising the plate having the holes therethrough.

Claims (2)

1. A lightweight boat moving device for a boat having a substantially planar stern, said moving device comprising a pair of legs each having a wheel rotatably mounted at one end thereof, each of the pair of legs having a pair of spaced holes therethrough, one in the area of the other end thereof and the other in the area of the center thereof; and fastening means affixed to the stern of the boat for securing the legs in spaced parallel relation in a selected first position in which the legs extend below the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance below the bottom of the boat and a selected second position in which the legs extend above the stern of the boat in a manner whereby the wheels are a predetermined distance above the stern of the boat, the fastening means comprising a pair of spaced parallel plates affixed at right angles to the stern of the boat, each having three spaced holes therethrough, a first in the area of one end thereof, a second in the area of the other end thereof and a third in the area of the center thereof, and pin means for removably affixing each leg to a corresponding one of the plates via the holes thereof in the first position in which the two holes of each leg are in alignment with the first and third holes of each plate and in the second position in which the two holes of each leg are in alignment with the second and third holes of each plate.
2. A lightweight boat moving device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fastening means comprises a pair of spaced parallel elongated L angle members each comprising a pair of elongated narrow plates at right angles to each other, one plate of each angle member being affixed to the stern of the boat and the other plate comprising the plate having the holes therethrough.
