Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 38,256, dated April '21, 1863.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. WOOLSON, of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved mode of constructing a portable ash-box and of attaching the same to cooking-stoves below the fire-door, so as to receive and retain the ashes which fall from the same, and be easily removed for their discharge; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

I usually construct my ash-box of two pieces of cast iron, which, being fastened together by rivets, is seen at A A in the drawing. On the straight or inside piece I cast lugs or projections, which are seen atB B B B. Upon the small oven-door, which is usually placed directly beneath the fire-door, I cast lugs, as

seen at G G G O. The projections on the inside of the box fit into these lugs and hold the box in place, as seen at D D D D. The ash-box may be cast whole, if desirable, and when the stove is constructed without an oven-door under the fire-door the box may be attached to the side of the stove by casting the supporting-lug's thereon instead of the oven-door.

' What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

Attaching a portable ash-box, when constructed as described, to the oven-door or side plate of a cooking-stove below the firedoor, in the manner and for the purposes substantially as set forth.
