Abstract

A flying shear, adapted to be installed in the shearing line at the finished end of the heavy plate rolling mill plant for shearing metal plates in various lengths, having a stationary outer housing mounted on the bed plates, a pair of upper knife holder drives which are mounted on the outer housing and drive an eccentric cam shaft journaled on the outer housing for lifting and lowering an upper knife holder, a shiftable inner shear housing moving parallel to the traveling stock and being disposed inside of the outer housing, the inner shear housing guiding the liftable upper knife holder and carrying a lower knife holder to effect a shearing action between the upper knife holder, a pair of shifting supports bearing on the outer housing for supporting the inner shear housing, and a pair of shifting drives mounted on the bed plates for reciprocating the inner shear housing in synchronism with the traveling stock at the time of cutting. The upper knife holder is adapted to reciprocate both elevationally and laterally, and is connected to the eccentric cam shaft for rotating the output shaft of the upper knife holder driving device that is arranged in a stationary manner by a connecting rod. Thus, the desired sectional length of stock is provided by the simple structure of the flying shear.

Meister [571 ABSTRACT A flying shear, adapted to be installed in the shearing line at the finished end of the heavy plate rolling mill plant for shearing metal plates in various lengths, having a stationary outer housing mounted on the bed plates, a pair of upper knife holder drives which are mounted on the outer housing and drive an eccentric cam shaft joumaled on the outer housing for lifting and lowering an upper knife holder, a shiftable inner shear housing moving parallel to the traveling stock and being disposed inside of the outer housing, thev inner shear housing guiding the liftable upper knife holder and carrying a lower knife holder to effect a shearing action between the upper knife holder, a pair of shifting supports bearing on the outer housing for supporting the inner shear housing, and a pair of shifting drives mounted on the bed plates for reciprocating the inner shear housing in synchronism with the traveling stock at the time of cutting. The upper knife holder is adapted to reciprocate both elevationally and laterally, and is connected to the eccentric cam shaft for rotating the output shaft of the upper knife holder driving device that is arranged in a stationary manner by a connecting rod. Claims (2)

1. In a flying shear adapted to be installed in the shearing line at the finished end of the heavy plate rolling mill plant for shearing metal plates in various lengths, having a stationary outer housing mounted on bed plates, a pair of upper knife holder drives mounted on said outer housing and driving an eccentric cam shaft journaled on said outer housing for lifting and lowering an upper knife holder, a shiftable inner shear housing moving parallel to the traveling stock, said inner housing being inside of said outer housing, guiding said liftable upper knife holder and carrying a lower knife holder to effect a shearing action between said upper knife holder, a pair of shifting supports bearing on said outer housing for supporting said inner shear housing, and a pair of shifting drives mounted on said bed plates for reciprocating said inner shear housing in synchronism with the traveling stock at the time of cutting; the improvement wherein an inner eccentric cam is fixed to a drive shaft for oneway rotation, an outer eccentric cam is movably engaged with the outer periphery of said inner eccentric cam and is so mounted as to inversely drive with the same speed as the inner eccentric cam at the same time the connecting rod movably engaged with the outer periphery of said outer eccentric cam, is connected directly or through a rockable lever to the flying shear housing, whereby the composite motion of the inner and outer eccentric cams are converted to the reciprocating motion of the knife holder.

In a flying shear installed in the shearing line at the finished end of the heavy plate rolling mill plant for shearing metal plates in various lengths, having a stationary outer housing mounted on bed plates, a pair of upper knife holder drives mounted on said outer housing and adapted to drive an eccentric cam shaft journaled on said outer housing for lifting and lowering an upper knife holder, a shiftable inner shear housing moving parallel to the traveling stock, said inner housing being inside of said outer housing, guiding said liftable upper knife holder and carrying a lower knife holder to effect a shearing action between said upper knife holder, a pair of shifting supports bearing on said outer housing for supporting said inner shear housing, and a pair of shifting drives mounted on said bed plates for reciprocating said inner shear housing in synchronism with the traveling stock at the time of cutting; the improvement comprising inner and outer eccentric cam shafts and wherein the upper knife holder drives and the inside shearing housing reciprocating drives are driven separately by electric motors, and the upper knife holder drive motor is operated inttermittently and the rotating speed of the eccentric cam shaft for the upper knife edge drive is rotated at a higher speed than the rotating speed of the inner and outer eccentric cam shafts for the inside shearing housing reciprocating flying drive.
