3 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures SUBMERSIBLE PUMP BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an arrangement of the kind (herein called -the kind defined) including an electric motor-pump assembly which is submersible in a waste water sump orother liquid-container and which is guided during lowering into position by guide elements co-operating with guide means and of which the delivery connection piece in its lowered position is connectable with the inlet of a delivery conduit.
In the prior art, the known pump assembly arrange-- ments of the kind defined there is, for example, secured to the bottom of the liquid-container a pipe bend provided with a foot. On the one hand this pipe bend provided with a foot serves for the connection of the delivery conduit, and on the other hand it serves as an abutment for the delivery outlet piece of the pump to be connected therewith, which pump in a lowered position, for example under the influence of its own weight,
can rest against the pipe bend. Moreover usuallythere are provided on the pipe bend means for receiving the lower end of the guide means, which during lowering of the pump guide it'with its delivery outlet piece into the complementary position relative to the inlet of the pipe bend.
Therefore this pipe bend with the foot must be included during the supplying of such pump assembly arrangements. Thus there is involved a bulky and heavy item which not only raises the transport costs but also must be continuously kept in stock by the manufacturer. The invention is therefore primarily intended to provide the possibility that the provision of a special pipe bend provided with a foot becomes superfluous and instead thereof permits the utilization of a commercially conventional pipe bend with standardized connection means and which moreover makes it possible to use such conventional constructions of the pump assembly as are provided for stationary installations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION- According to the invention there is provided an arrangement of the kind defined, characterised by a connection pedestal which can be secured in position in the liquid-container and which is provided with a passage opening for the liquid being pumped, which pedestal serves as a foot for the guide means and also serves as an abutment for the delivery outlet piece of the pump, and to which connection pedestal moreover the inlet part of the delivery conduit can be connected securely at the side lying opposite to the delivery outlet piece of the pump.
The pipe bend may, for example, be a commercially conventional article.
As an important component on the connection pedestal there may be provided a connection plate to which on one side the pipe bend of the delivery conduit may be attached by flanges, while the opposite side can be connected to the delivery outlet piece of the pump. If as guide means for the pump assembly there are employed commercially conventional tubes with circular cross-section, this connection plate may carry at its upper edge boss-like means for receiving the lower ends of the tubes which may be pushed without noticeable free play over those bosses and then, for example, may be secured by a fastening pin.
- In order to make it possible to avoid the use of special pump constructions which are provided with guide elements for sliding on the guide means during the movement, and to make it possible to employ conventional commercial pump constructions, whereby again the stock holding is simplified, the invention further provides in a submersible pump assembly arrangement of the kind defined that, especially in connection with the above-described connection plate, the delivery outlet piece of the pump is provided with a flange-like intermediate connection piece which carries the guiding elements by which the pump assembly is guided upon the guide means. This intermediate connection piece of the pump which serves as a counter flange for the connection plate can at the same time be extended in order to achieve a secure sealing between the pump and the delivery conduit, in that it is constructed as a holder for a seal. In relation thereto there has proved to be suitable an annular seal which has a U-shaped profile in cross-section and which grips the inner margin of the intermediate connection piece attached to the pump, whereby one limb of the ring of U-shaped cross-section formed as a sealing ring lies between the intermediate connection piece and the pump delivery outlet piece, and the oppositely lying annular part of the seal effects the sealing between the intermediate connection piece and the connection plate.
In this way it is possible to avoid special constructions as heretofore usual for the submersible pump assembly which is lowerable into the container and with supplementary means to obtaina simpler and cheaper complete arrangement with parts of normal construction.
The invention permits manifold possibilities of construction.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The scope of the monopoly sought is defined in the claims hereinafter and how the invention may be put into practice is described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which FIG. 1 shows in vertical section the lower end of a guide tube with the adjoining connection parts of a pump and delivery conduit, and
FIG. 2 shows a view towards the connection side thereof with the pipe bend removed.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In the example of embodiment illustrated in the drawings there is fastened upon the bottom of a container (not illustrated) a foot 11 which is secured by means of the screws with nuts 12 indicated in FIG. 2. This foot 11 carries an upright standing connection plate 13 which is braced against the foot 11 by means of strengthening webs 14, 15 and 16. The connection plate 13 is provided with a passage opening 131 which is surrounded on both sides by protuberant annular surfaces 132 and 133. By means of screws and with the interpositioning of an annular seal 17 a connecting flange 181 is secured against the annular surface 132, the flange 181 being on a pipe bend 18 of which the second flange 182 can be connected with a delivery conduit (not shown) loading upwardly. Against the other annular surface 133 in the lowered condition the delivery outlet piece 19 of the pump assembly presses with its seal 21 held by an intermediate connection piece 20.
The intermediate connection piece is secured to the flange 191 of the delivery outlet piece 19 of the pump assembly by means of screws (not shown) and has at its inner periphery an opening which accommodates the seal 21. The seal 21 has a U-shaped crosssection and grips around the inner periphery of the intermediate connection piece 20, a washer-shaped part 211 of this seal 21 being clamped between the delivery outlet flange 191 and the intermediate connection piece 20. Thus not only is the seal 21 held in its position but also there is achieved a good sealing between the pump delivery outlet piece 19 and the intermediate connection piece 20. The further washer-shaped part 212 of the seal 21 lies against the free side of the intermediate connection 20 and upon pressing of the pumpagainst the connection plate 13 lies against the annular surface 133 thereof so that there also there is achieved a good sealing.
The connection plate 13 at its upper edge carries a locating boss 22 for the lower end of a guide tube 23 which serves for the guiding of the pump assembly during lowering and raising. The end of the guide tube can be secured upon the locating boss 22 by a fastening pin (not shown). Around this guide tube 23 as a guide element there engages a guide collar 24 which rests upon the intermediate connection piece 20 and has an aligning slit 241 which widens conically downwards. During lowering this locating slit 241 of the guide collar 24 slides, while the pump assembly is only roughly located with reference to the connection plate 13, upon a locating rail 25 secured to the upper margin of the connection plate 13, which rail 25 locates the flange-like intermediate connection piece 20 exactly in relation to the likewise flange-like connection plate 13 and guides the two parts into the correct relative positions. At the end of the guide tube 23 the guide collar 24 strikes against an abutment piece 26 which carries the aligning rail 25. Under the influence of the weight of the pump assembly the pump delivery outlet piece 19 bears against the connection plate 13 and thus creates a tight seal here.
