A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus in which an enclosed chamber is formed between an inside chamber and an outside chamber within an inner chamber of a casing by use of two partitions, which enclosed chamber being sufficient to mount a compressor and a fan motor therein, thus making it possible to prevent a transmission of an unpleasant sound made by the compressor and the motor into the room to be air-conditioned or into next houses.

The air conditioning apparatus of this kind comprises generally a refrigerating unit having a compressor, a condenser, a coolant controlling device and an evaporator; a blower having fans and fan motors; and a partition dividing an inner chamber of a casing of the apparatus into an inside chamber and an outside chamber; the condenser and the evaporator being mounted within the outside chamber and the inside chamber, respectively, an air condition within the room being effected while circulating the air over the condenser and the evaporator. It is an important thing in the air conditioning apparatus to prevent a great noise generated by the compressor from being transmitted outsides, because the air conditioning apparatus of this type employs the compressor which generates an unpleasant sound.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an primary object of this invention to provide an air conditioning apparatus of which structure is simple and aids in reducing the unpleasant sound of the compressor. That is, the invention provides the air conditioning apparatus wherein two partitions divide an inner chamber of the casing of the apparatus into an inside chamber, an enclosed chamber and an outside chamber, and the compressor is mounted within the enlosed chamber.
According to this invention provided is an air conditioning apparatus comprising a casing divided into aninside chamber, an enclosed chamber and an outside chamber by two partitions and having air intake openings and air discharge openings provided within the inside and outside chambers, respectively, fans mounted within the inside and outside chambers, heat exchangers each located in an air duct of each fan, a compressor mounted within. the enclosed chamber and forming.
a refrigeratingcycle with said heat exchangers.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to FIG. 1, an air conditioning apparatus of the invention includes a casing adapted to be mounted within an opening or a window 2a of a building wall 2. When the casing 1 has been mounted within the window 2a, the casing is divided into an indoor section located in a room to be air-conditioned and an outdoor sectionexposed to an outdoor air. A decorative cover 3 is mounted in an opening of the front portion of the casing which cover being provided with an air intake opening 3a and an outlet opening 3b. The opposite rear portion of the casing is formed with an air-intake opening 1a and the both sides of the casing are formed with air-discharge openings lb and 1c, respectively. A first partition 4 and a second partition 5 are arranged in the casing to divide the inner chamber of the casing into an inside chamber 6, an outside chamber 7 and an enclosed chamber 8. The first partition 4 serves to form the inside chamber and the enclosed chamber 8 and second partition 5 serves to form the outside chamber and the enclosed chamber 8. A centrifugal fan 9 such as a'Silocco fan is disposed within the inside chamber 6 so as to discharge from the outlet opening 312 the air which has entered the inside chamber through the inlet opening 3a. It will of course be understood that the indoor air tobe conditioned is sucked or drawn into the inside chamber by said fan 9. A spiral casing 10 is located around the fan 9, which comprises a mouth ring 10a in front of the fan, the first partition 4 behind the fan and spiral member 10b along a side thereof. Said mouth ring 10a is formed with a suction opening 10c for the fan 9 and said spiral member 10b is formed with an outlet 10d facing the outlet opening 3b of the cover 3. An evaporator 11 is disposed at the suction side of the fan 9, which serves to cool the indoor air circulated thereover.
A centrifugal both suction fan 12 such as a Silocco fan is disposed within the outdoor chamber 7 in such a manner that the outdoor air is drawn from both the front and rear portion of the fan and then the sucked air is discharged sidewards. A spiral casing 13 is mounted around the fan, which comprises a mouth ring l3a'behind the fan 12, the second partition 5 in front of the fan and spiral members 13b, 13c on the side portion thereof. Said mouth ring 13a is formed with a suction opening 13d for the fan 12 and said spiral members 13b, 13c are formed with discharge openings 13e, 13f facing the outlet openings lb, 10 of the casing l. The second partition 5 is provided with a suction opening 13g for the fan 12. Said both spiral members 13b, 13c are shaped symmetrically to an axle of the fan 12.
A condenser 14 is disposed at one of the suction sides of; the fan 12 for transmitting heat in the condenser to the outdoor air. A motor 15 for driving the fans is located within the enclosed chamber 8 to directly connect with said fans 9 and 12. A compressor 16 is disposed within the enclosed chamber 8 and the compressor 16, the evaporator 11 and the condenser 14, the evaporator 11 and the condenser 14 form a refrigeration cycle. A condensed dew collecting pan 17 is located just below the evaporator 11 and receives dews which are condensed on the external surface of the evaporator 1 1 and drop therefrom. The collected water in the pan 17 is led below the outside chamber 7 through a conduit 18. A slinger ring 19 is directly connected with the shaft of the fan 12 for dissipating said condensed water to the condenser.
In order to perform the functions as a window mounted air conditioning apparatus, at least a sheet of the partition which is mounted within the chamber of the casing is required for dividing the inner chamber of the casing into the inside chamber and the outside chamber. The feature of the invention resides in that the enclosed chamber is formed by additionally mounting only a secondary partition away from the first partition within the inner chamber of the casing. Not only the structure thus fabricated is simple and economic to manufacture because of an addition of only one partition, but also as the enclosed chamber thus formed is located between the inside chamber and the outside chamber so as to isolate the both chambers, a degree of noise made by the fan mounted within the inside chamber will be considerably reduced when its sound comes to persons outdoor and a degree of noise generated by the fan mounted within the outside chamber of the casing will be considerably reduced when its sound comes to persons indoor. Further, when the compressor is surrounded closely with the sound isolating material to prevent the generation of noise therefrom, the increase of temperature of the compressor itself is caused and the problem of the dielectric breakdown of the lead wire is presented. However, when used is in the air conditioning apparatus the enclosed chamber formed by the partitions such as the invention, the problem of the dielectric breakdown will be almost solved because of a convection of the outdoor air within the enclosed chamber.
In the case that the increase of temperature of the compressor becomes a problem, it is desirable to provide a ventilating hole on the enclosed chamber. As the dissipation of heat in the compressor to the outdoor air can be forcedly performed if the ventilating hole is located in the ventilating flue or duct, the increase of temperature of the compressor not only may be more positively prevented, the temperature of the indoor air to be conditioned but also is kept in a desired level comfortable to persons in the room.
Hitherto, a propeller fan has generally been employed as a fan of the outdoor air feeding means. The propeller fan is simple in structure as compared with the centrifugal fan, however, it is desired to use the centrifugal fan to reduce the noise of the fan. The feature of the invention resides in that the partitions forming the enclosed chamber is utilized as a center casing of the fan when the centrifugal fan has been used as an outdoor fan. Therefore, even if the centrifugal fan is employed, the invention can make the struture simplified.
The window-mounted air conditioning apparatus of the invention only has one motor for driving both the indoor fan and the outdoor fan, because the indoor fan is located closely to the outdoor fan and the both fans may be connected directly with said motor. Further, the compressor is placed in juxtaposition with the motor and near the motor. For the reason, the arrangement of the fan motor within the enclosed chamber wherein there is located the compressor serves to make the air conditioning apparatus simplified and avail effectively the inner space of the enclosed chamber formed by the both partitions. This has the effect of reducing the noise made by the fan motor. As the great amount of a blow of air needed for maintaining the condenser in a favorable condition as compared with the evaporator, the large capacity of the centrifugal fan is required when the centrifugal fan is used as the outdoor fan and addition to the condenser the fan also has the compressor cooled. It is impossible to enlarge the size of the fan, because the enlarged fan is not housed in the casing adapted to be mounted in the window of the building. That is, the size of the fan is subject to the restriction by the size of the casing. The invention employs the both suction type of the centrifugal fan as the outdoor fan and effects the cooling of the compressor by providing the ventilating hole of the enclosed chamber in facing relation with one side of the fan. The one side of the fan is utilized for the force heat exchange of the condenser and the other side thereof is utilized for the force cooling of the compressor. Thus, an amount of the blow of the outdoor fan is increased, it is possible to make the compressor cooled.
It is desirable for the window-mounted air conditioning apparatus to dispose of the condensed dew in the outdoor chamber after the condensed dew clung on the surface of the evaporator has been collected in the pan and the collected dew has been led from the pan to the outdoor chamber. The invention is such that the slinger ring is connected to the shaft of the centrifugal fan and the dew led to the outdoor chamber is blown upon the condenser. Thus, it is possible to increase the degree of the heat exchange of the condenser together with a treatment of the condensed water.
What we claim is:
1. A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus comprising:
a housing including first and second partitions for dividing said housing into an inner evaporator compartment having an evaporator heat exchanger and a first fan mounted therein, and said inner compartment further including first air inlet openings and first air discharge openings to provide an air duct with said first fan for circulating air through said evaporator heat exchanger;
an intermediate enclosed compartment having a compressor mounted therein and a vent opening for introducing air into said enclosed compartment to cool said compressor; and
an outer condenser compartment having a condenser heat exchanger and second centrifugal fan of the both suction-type mounted therein, and said outer compartment further including second air inlet openings and second air discharge openings,
said second fan having a first and second portion and mounted in said outer compartment to provide a heat exchanger air duct with said second portion of said fan for forcing air from said second air inlet openings through said condenser heat exchanger to said second air discharge openings and to provide a separate ventilating air duct with said first portion of said fan for forcing air introduced into said enclosed chamber from said enclosed chamber through a suction opening in said second partition to said second air discharge openings, thereby cooling said compressor.
2. A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus according to claim 1, wherein a spiral casing is mounted around said both suction-type centrifugal fan for providing spiral members formed with discharge openings facing said second air discharge openings.
3. A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus according to claim 1, wherein a fan motor is mounted in said enclosed chamber for directly connecting with said first and second fans through said first and second partition walls, respectively.

Claims (3)

1. A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus comprising: a housing including first and second partitions for dividing said housing into an inner evaporator compartment having an evaporator heat exchanger and a first fan mounted therein, and said inner compartment further including first air inlet openings and first air discharge openings to provide an air duct with said first fan for circulating air through said evaporator heat exchanger; an intermediate enclosed compartment having a compressor mounted therein and a vent opening for introducing air into said enclosed compartment to cool said compressor; and an outer condenser compartment having a condenser heat exchanger and second centrifugal fan of the both suction-type mounted therein, and said outer compartment further including second air inlet openings and second air discharge openings, said second fan having a first and second portion and mounted in said outer compartment to provide a heat exchanger air duct with said second portion of said fan for forcing air from said second air inlet openings through said condenser heat exchanger to said second air discharge openings and to provide a separate ventilating air duct with said first portion of said fan for forcing air introduced into said enclosed chamber from said enclosed chamber through a suction opening in said second partition to said second air discharge openings, thereby cooling said compressor.
2. A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus according to claim 1, wherein a spiral casing is mounted around said both suction-type centrifugal fan for providing spiral members formed with discharge openings facing said second air discharge openings.
3. A window-mounted air conditioning apparatus according to claim 1, wherein a fan motor is mounted in said enclosed chamber for directly connecting with said first and second fans through said first and second partition walls, respectively.
