Description
G. WEDEKIND.

Patented March 24, 1863.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUS'IAV VEDEKIND, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPPLCVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR PAPER-SHADE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 37,990, dated March 24, 1863.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUs'rAV WEDEKIND, ot' the oity and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a ne7 and uset'ul Improvement in Paper or other Shade Clasps and Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to he a ull, elear, and exact description ot' the construction and operation of the same, reference bein g had to the aeeompanyin g drawings, makin g a part ot' this specification, in whieh Figure 1` represents a perspective view of the clasp or holder. Fig. 2 represents a seotion through the saine.
I am aware that the ring and clips of a shadeholder have been stamped up out of one piece of metal, being myself the patentee of such a shade-holder; but this invention eonsistsin the peculiar manner of making and position of the clips on the ring, and, as a consequence, the mode of holding the shade to the elasp by said clips.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to deseribe the same in connection with the drawings.
The ring A may be made out of tin, zine, or brass. It is out out and stamped up into form in the usual well-known way. The clips a, which are a portion of the solid sheet metal from which the ring is out and stamped up,
and neat shadeelasp. The springs Z1, tor hold-v ing the shade to the Chimney, are riveted to the ring and project above and below the ring so as to get a firm support against the chimney. The ring, as I have shown it, has a plain molding on it. It may be highly ornainented, if desirable.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 4 The making of the clips at the top and inside of the ring, so as to ola-sp the shade inside of the ring, in the manner and for the purpose herein described and represented.l
