3,107,371 10/1963 Thompson 9/307 5 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures SWIMMING-AID DEVICES The present invention relates to a device for assisting swimming and for re-education for use in swimming pools.
A device of this type is already known which is formed of a flipper which the swimmer attaches to his feet and which enables him, by making paddling movements with his feet, to improve his swimming speed; however, the flipper is not, strictly speaking, a device used for re-education.
The invention therefore has for its object a device for assisting swimming and for re-education for use in swimming pools, which is fixed to the fore-arm or to the leg, characterised in that it is formed of two fins disposed longitudinally with respect to the limb and extending radially with respect thereto. The fins more or less oppose the movements of the limb to which they are attached in a direction perpendicular to each fin. Thus one fin acts to opposte movement of the limb while the other fin acts like a rudder. This results in greater stability in all the directions in which the limb moves while swimming.
The invention will be more readily understood upon reading the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a device according to the invention fastended to the fore-arm.
FIG. 2 is a section along lllI of FIG. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the device according to the invention is intended to be fixed to the fore-arm or the leg, and in the example shown, it comprises a curved part 1, slightly conical in shape, which takes the shape of the arm on which it is fixed by two belts 2 and 3 with buckles 4, passing round the arm.
Integral with this curved part are two fins 5 and 6 which extend radially and longitudinally, their planes substantially fixed at an angle of In addition, the breadth of the fin increases from the elbow to the wrist or from the knee to the ankle.
The invention in not limited to the embodiment hereinbefore described and the man skilled in the art may add various modifications thereto, without departing from the scope thereof. In particular, the dimensions of the fins vary as a function of the aims sought after, namely the type of exercises to be made.
I claim:
1. A swimming device releasably mountable on the limb of a swimmer during use comprising: two fins; and means connecting said two fins in a spaced apart relationship and substantially fixedly disposing said two fins substantially perpendicular to each other.
2. A swimming device according to claim 1, further comprising means for releasably mounting said two fins to the limb of a swimmer during use and for positioning said fins radially outwardly from the limb.
3. A swimming device according to claim 1, wherein the width of each of said two fins is proportionally increased in the direction towards the end of the limb.
4. A device according to claim 1, wherein said means connecting comprises an elongated member integral with said two fins and having an arcuate cross-section and comprising flexible material adaptable to the contour of a limb of a swimmer during use.
5. A device according to claim 2, wherein said means releasably mounting for comprises two belts.

Claims (5)
