Abstract

A machine for tying of packing pieces, of piles of packings or the like, in which tying material is guided around a packing piece disposed on a supporting table and is brought after a following pull back of the over length into the taut engagement position on the packing piece, which comprises tying means, and a feeder belt running on a predetermined path as a carrier of the tying means fed around a packing piece. The feeder belt has a groove open towards the packing piece for a clamping mounting of the tying means. The cross-section of the feeder belt is enlarged at least within the range of the entrance location of the tying means due to elastic deformation of the feeder belt within the range of the location.

An about annular channel is provided for the tying means in such known machines, which tying means slide feeding rollers through the channel. The channel is kept closed by closing elements during the feeding of the tying means, which closing elements are forcibly controlled or enter resiliently into the open position during the pull back of the over length of the tying means. The tying means for such machines must be stable, so that it is slidable free of disturbances through the annular channel. For this reason these machines do not permit the insert of very flexible tying means, as thinner wire, steel bands, fiber bands, bands of synthetic material or the like.
It is one object of the present invention, to provide a machine for tying of packings, piles of packings, or the like, which is of a simple structure, in which also very flexible tying means, in particular a band of synthetic material, can be fed around the packing piece.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a machine for tying of packings, piles of packings, or the like, wherein a feeding belt moving on the predetermined path is provided as a carrier for the tying means to be guided about the packing piece, which feeding belt has a groove open towards the packing piece for the clamping receiving of the tying means, and the cross-section of which enlarges itself at least within the range of the feeding location for the tying means due to the elastic deformation of the feeder belt within the range of this location.
An advantageous embodiment consists thereby, in accordance with the present invention, of an arrangement, in which two pressure rollersare provided within the range of the feeding location for the tying means, which pressure rollers engage the marginal edges of the feeding belt and bending the feeding belt into a roof shape about its longitudinal axis, whereby the apex of the roof extends within the range of the groove.
It can be of advantage thereby, that the pressure rollers comprise oppositely disposed taper rollers which point towards each other.
It is furthermore favorable, that, in accordance with the present invention, a deflection roller forcing the groove side of the feeding belt into a convex curvature is disposed adjacent the pressure rollers.
Also an advantageous feature of the present invention is realized, in accordance with the present invention, that also within the range of the exit location for the tying means a device is provided which enlarges the cross-section of the groove due to elastic deformation of the feeding belt.
Beyond that, it is of advantage, that in accordance with the present invention the locations having wider cross-sections are disposed in both sides and at about the level of the closing device.
Finally, it is still of advantage, according to the present invention, that the deflection rollers determining the prescribed path of the feeding belt consist of two rollers disposed towards each other and at a distance from each other.
This solution provides an embodiment of a machine 7 of simple structure, which permits most favorably the tying around of a flexible tying means, in particular a band of synthetic material. This is obtained, because the groove is disposed in a feeding belt guided around the packing piece. Due to clamped-in tying means a removal thereof from the tying means drum takes place. Thus, the otherwise necessary feeder rollers moving the tying means through the channel can be eliminated. The driving force requirement for the feeding belt, which is formed. simultaneously as a groove, moves within favorable limits. The insertion of the end of the tying means into the groove, which is open towards the packing piece, permits disturbance-free an enlarged groove cross-section, disposed in this range, which can be brought about at this location by a mere deforma- -tion of the feeder belt. It is merely necessary for this angle in addition the cross-section enlargement of the groove can be determined. For creation of the roof shape of the feeder belt at the feeding location are suitable particularly oppositely disposed taper rollers directed towards each other. A deflection roller following the taper rollers forces the feeder belt into a convex curvature, so that the end of the tying means is clampingly retained and pulled immediately after insert into the groove at the location thereof having an enlarged cross-section. By feeding around of the tying means about the packing piece, a device provided at the exit location of the tyingmeans and enlarging the crosssection of the groove permits the reliable and careful emergence of the end of the tying means in this range. This can still be supported by a removal finger of the tying means projecting into the emergence location of the feeder'band equipped with the groove. It has been found that it brings advantages to design the groove in a dove-tail cross-section, the narrowed opening width is brought by means of pressure rollers to at least to the width of the tying means within the range of the entrance and exit locations. The closing device sits at the same length as the locations widening the cross-section, which favors the connection of the ends of the tying means. The pull back of the tying means prior to the connection is not interfered with by the deflection rollers determining the prescribed path of the feeder belt, since the deflection rollers consist each of two rollers spaced apart from each other. The distance corresponds, however, at least with the width of the tying means.
With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention, which is shown by example only,
will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a front elevation of the machine designed in accordance with the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a schematic fragmentary elevation of the feeder band within the range of the entrance location of the tying means;
FIG. 3 is an end view of the showing in FIG. 2 seen in the direction of the arrow III;
FIG. 4 is a top plan view of the taper rollers at the entrance location of the tying means, and in particular the feeder belt being shown in section;
FIG. 5 is a schematic showing in elevation of the entrance-and exit-locations, the end of the tying means emerging from the exit location; and

Referring now to the drawings, the machine designed in accordance with the present invention, comprises a machine body 2 equipped with a table top 1.
A tunnel-shaped frame 3 extends from the table top 1, the opening 4 serving the insertion of a packing piece P set on the table top 1. A press 5 is provided on the frame 3, a pressure pad 6 of which engages the top side of the packing piece P and compresses and also retains the packing piece P. Under circumstances, such press can be omitted, since the tying means are guided on a predetermined path about the packing piece P.
An electric motor 7, disposed in the lower machine body 2, drives a driving disc 9, by means of a belt 8, for
the feeder belt 10. The latter is forced into a predeter-' mined path by means of deflection rollers 11, 12, 13 and 14, each of which consists of two rollers disposed spaced-apart towards each other. Each of the rollers of the deflection rollers has a collar 15, so that a lateral guide of the feeder belt is brought about.
The feeder belt 10 is elastically deformable and consists of two outside-disposed layers 16 and 17 of synthetic material, as well as of intermediate layers 18 and 19 of tissue or the like, between which a further layer 20 of synthetic material is disposed, which layer 20 is connected by welding or the like with the outer layers 16 and 17 through the layers 18 and 19. In order to avoid any slip, the side of the feeder belt 10 engaging the deflecting rollers as well as the driving disc 9 is equipped with a profile 17.
The groove 21 of the feeder belt 10 is arranged in the thicker formed layer 16 and has a dove-tail crosssection (FIG. 6). The lesser width x of the dove-tail cross-section of the groove 21 is directed towards a packing piece and is smaller than the width y of the Due to the deflection rollers 29 and 30, respectively, which are adjacent to pressure rollers 27 and 28, which force the feeder belt 10 to run through the taper rollers, an elastic deformation of the feeder belt 10 takes place, such that the feeder belt 10 assumes roof-shape in this range, thus in the entrance-and exit-locations, whereby the roof apex 10" runs within the range of the groove 21. The pressure rollers 27 and 28 are retained in longitudinal slots 31 and 32, respectively, of bearing plates 22 and arrested by means of clamping screws 33 in their respective position. By displacement of the pressure rollers in the longitudinal slots 31 and 32, respectively, towards or from the deflection rollers, the roofangle of the feeder belt is adjustable and, thereby, the gaping of the groove apex zone can be detemiined.

In order to obtain an enlarged groove cross-section within the range of the entranceand exit- locations 25 and 26, a pressure roller 27 and 28, respectively, is provided between the driving disc 9 and the deflection roller 11, as well as between the driving disc 9 and the deflection roller 14. The pressure rollers 27 and 28, respectively, consist of oppositely disposed taper rollers 27', 27 and 28, 28", respectively, which are directed towards each other, and engage the marginal edges 10' of the feeder belt 10.
A closing device 34 is arranged between the entranceand exit- locations 25 and 26 at the same height to the latter, which closing device 34 brings about the connection of the ends of the tying means, for example by welding.
The following manner of operation results:
The tying means 23 taken off the roller 24 for the tying means is fed over a pair of rollers 35, passing the closing device 34 to the entrance location 25 for the tying means. The end 23 of the tying means enters the enlarged groove cross-section and clampingly retained after such entrance by the groove of the feeder belt 10, is guided around the packing piece P.'A removal finger 36 (FIG. 5) of the tying means, which projects into the enlarged cross-section of the groove and is disposed at the exit location of the tying means steers the end 23 of the tying means into the closing device 34, in which it is secured.
Thereafter the pull back of the tying means takes place by example by winding of the tying means on the drum 24, whereby the tying means guided around the packing piece, emerges forcibly from the groove 21 of the feeder belt 10 and engages the packing piece. The connection of the ends of the tying means can then be performed by the closing device 34, which feeds then the new end of the tying means to the entrance location 25.
While I have disclosed one embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood, that this embodiment is given by example only and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A machine for tying of packing pieces, of piles of packings or the like, in which tying material is guided around a packing piece disposed on a supporting table and is brought after a following pull back of the over length into the taut engagement position on the packing piece, comprising a feeder belt running on a predetermined path as a cam'er of a tying means fed around a packing piece,
said feeder belt having a groove open towards said packing piece for a clamping mounting of said tying means, and
said feeder belt defining a cross-section,
the cross-section of said feeder belt being enlarged at least within a range of an entrance location of said tying means due to elastic deformation of said feeder belt within the range of said location.
2. The machine, as set forth in claim l, which includes two pressure rollers disposed within the range of the entrance location of said tying means, and engaging marginal edges of said feeder belt, as well as bending said feeder belt into apex-shape about its longitudinal axis within a range of said groove.
3. The machine, as set forth in claim 2, wherein said pressure rollers comprise oppositely disposed taper rollers, directed towards each other.
4. The machine, as set forth in claim 2, which includes a deflection roller forming the side of said feeding belt having said groove into a convex curvature and disposed adjacent said pressure rollers.
5. The machine, as set forth in claim ll, which includes means for enlarging said groove by elastic deformation of said feeder belt within a range of an exit location of said tying means.
6. The machine, as set forth in claim 5, which includes a removal-finger of said'tying means and said removal finger projecting into said groove within the range of the location having an enlarged crosssection.
7. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said groove has a dove-tail cross-section. 8. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, which includes a closing device for-connecting ends of said tying means, and said groove having enlarged crosssection on both sides and at about a height of said closing device. 9. The-machine, as set forth in claim 1, which includes a plurality of deflection rollers determining a path for said feeder belt, and each of said deflection rollers comprises two rollers disposed spaced apart opposite each other.

Claims (9)

1. A machine for tying of packing pieces, of piles of packings or the like, in which tying material is guided around a packing piece disposed on a supporting table and is brought after a following pull back of the over length into the taut engagement position on the packing piece, comprising a feeder belt running on a predetermined path as a carrier of a tying means fed around a packing piece, said feeder belt having a groove open towards said packing piece for a clamping mounting of said tying means, and said feeder belt defining a cross-section, the cross-section of said feeder belt being enlarged at least within a range of an entrance location of said tying means due to elastic deformation of said feeder belt within the range of said location.
2. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, which includes two pressure rollers disposed within the range of the entrance location of said tying means, and engaging marginal edges of said feeder belt, as well as bending said feeder belt into apex-shape about its longitudinal axis within a range of said groove.
3. The machine, as set forth in claim 2, wherein said pressure rollers comprise oppositely disposed taper rollers, directed towards each other.
4. The machine, as set forth in claim 2, which includes a deflection roller forming the side of said feeding belt having said groove into a convex curvature and disposed adjacent said pressure rollers.
5. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, which includes means for enlarging said groove by elastic deformation of said feeder belt within a range of an exit location of said tying means.
6. The machine, as set forth in claim 5, which includes a removal-finger of said tying means and said removal finger projecting into said groove within the range of the location having an enlarged cross-section.
7. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said groove has a dove-tail cross-section.
8. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, which includes a closing device for connecTing ends of said tying means, and said groove having enlarged cross-section on both sides and at about a height of said closing device.
9. The machine, as set forth in claim 1, which includes a plurality of deflection rollers determining a path for said feeder belt, and each of said deflection rollers comprises two rollers disposed spaced apart opposite each other.
