Abstract

A package including a game board and a prize board having toys secured thereto. The front face of the game board is provided with a pictorial representation and individual bits of informational printed matter. The informational printed matter is correlated to the toys secured to the prize board. Each of the individual bits of informational printed matter is covered by easily removable means. The obscured printed matter, once uncovered, will indicate the toy that a player has won.

3 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures HIDDEN INDICIA GAME BOARD AND ASSOCIATED TOY SHEET WITH SIMILAR INDICIA DISCLOSURE This application is a continuation-in-part application of Ser. No. 738,538 filed June 20, 1968 and now abandoned.

The present invention relates to a package and more particularly to a package which comprises a game board and a separate sheet member having toys secured thereto. The package of the present invention is particularly adapted to be utilized at a party. Many variations of use of the game board are possible. The front face of the game board may be provided with an attractive scene thereon and divided into segments by a plurality of cross-hatch lines. One bit or unit of informational printed matter may be provided within each segment. The bits of informational printed matter will be obscured by a removable obscuring means.

Alternatively, the bits of informational printed matter may be aligned in rows adjacent the bottom of the game board.

A toy sheet is provided within the package and may be easily removed therefrom. Each bit of informational printed matter may identify a toy removably secured to the toy sheet. In some instances, it may be desirable to provide penalties or bonuses so that the informational printed matter may read SORRY, NO PRIZE, or TAKE TWO TURNS AND WIN TWO PRIZES. It is readily seen that many variations in providing the informational printed matter are possible.

The game may be played by each player in turn selecting one bit of informational printed matter and removing the easily removable means therefrom. Alternatively, a player could be blindfolded and given a pin and directed toward the game board. The pin will be inserted near one of the bits of informational printed matter of the game board, and the player will win the toy indicated by the informational printed matter. Again, it is readily apparent that many variations in play are possible.

In the preferred embodiment, the toy sheet is loosely retained in the package adjacent the rear face of the game board. A U-shaped reinforcing member is provided adjacent the upper end of the package.

The package includes a bag which may be composed of a suitable clear plastic for housing the game board and toy sheet. The game board and toy sheet may be loose within the bag. The upper ends of the bag may be folded to close the ends of the bag. The U-shaped reinforcing member is secured to the upper folded ends of the bag by staples or the like.

The U-shaped member has an opening therein so that the package may be supported by a projecting member. The reinforcing member may be stapled, glued or otherwise secured to the material surrounding the game board and the toy sheet.

For the purpose of illustrating the invention, there is shown in the drawings a form which is presently preferred; it being understood, however, that this invention is not limited to the precise arrangements and instrumentalities shown.

FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2;

FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of the contents of the package of the present invention in side by side relation; and

FIG. 5 is a view of a portion of the contents of the package shown in FIG. 4 broken out and enlarged.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein like numerals refer to like elements throughout the several views, there is shown in FIGS. 1-5 a game generally indicated by the reference numeral 10.

The game 10 may include a game board 12 and a prize board 14. While the game board and prize board may be comprised of one piece, it is preferred that they comprise two separate elements so that they can be disposed in side by side relation as illustrated in FIG. 4 when the game is played. Thus, the game board 12 and the prize board 14 may be composed of cardboard. However, they may also be composed of wood, plastic or any suitable stiff material.

Both boards are housed in a suitable bag 16 which may be comprised of a transparent plastic material. Preferably, both boards are placed in the bag in back to back relation so that indicia and other materials thereon are visible.

18 and 20 which, after the game boards and prize boards are inserted therein is closed at its top by being doubled over on itself a number of times to form a plurality of bights 22. The bag is sealed by a generally U-shaped member 24. Member 24 may be comprised of cardboard or other suitable material and has its legs 25 placed in overlying relation to bights 22. The U-shaped member 24 is fastened to the bights 22 by staples 26 passing through legs 25.

As best seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, both legs of the U- shaped reinforcing member 24 may be provided with suitable indicia. Additionally, it should be noted that the U-shape reinforcing member 24 may be provided with a centrally disposed aperture 28 so that the package may be suspended from a suitable bracket.

Referring now to FIG. 4 where the contents of the package 16 can be seen in substantial detail it is to be observed that a preferred form of the game board 12 is provided with a relatively large area 32 which may house suitable copy and illustrative material of a promotional nature. Obviously, the promotional material could take the form of illustrations or the like.

Additionally, a playing portion 34 is also provided. The playing area may comprise informational printed matter 36 (FIG. 5) disposed in a plurality of places around the game portion of the board. The informational printed matter in each instance is covered with a suitable concealing member 38. The concealing members may be comprised of pressure sensitive tape, foil having an adhesive coating on one face thereof or preferably a metal coating heat stamped over the printed matter. The metal coating may be a foil having a thickness of about 0.0003 to 0.001 inches which is transferred from a plastic or paper backing onto the game board. When foil or pressure sensitive tape is utilized, it may be readily removed without destroying the printed matter on the face of the game board. When a metal coating is heat stamped on the printed matter, the coating may be easily erased, thereby revealing the printed matter.

The prize board 14 may comprise a plurality of small gifts or toys 39. Each of the gifts may be placed in a suitable transparent thermoplastic container so that its parts may be held separate from the other gifts or it may be attached directly to the prize board. Each of the gifts is identified by suitable indicia 41 which correspond to the informational printed matter 36 appearing on the game board. Thus, by removing the concealing members 38 from over the printed informational matter, indicia corresponding to a particular gift or toy on the prize board is revealed and the participant is awarded the prize. Of course, as indicated above the indicia may award extra prizes or even refuse a prize.

If desired, a portion of the prize board may be provided with instructional material 40 relating to the manner of utilizing the game board and prize board.

Additionally, the instructional material 40 may also include informational material having first and

42 and 44. The first part 42 may be in the form of indicia and the second part 44 may be in the form of instructions to perform various stunts. The indicia and instructions comprising the second part correspond to the concealed printed indicia 36. After uncovering a concealed indicia 36, a participant must follow the instructions comprising the second part 44 before the prize 39 having indicia 41 corresponding to the indicia 42 is awarded.

It should be understood, that the manner of using the game board and prize board as described herein is merely exemplary. Thus, the game board and the prize board could be used in many different ways. This diversity flows from the arrangement of parts as described above.

Thus, while the invention has been described with reference to one particular embodiment thereof it is apparent many other forms and embodiments will be obvious to those skilled in the art in view of the foregoing disclosure. Thus, the scope of the invention should not be limited by the disclosure but only by the scope of the claims appended hereto.

1 claim:

1. A game comprising means defining a game board and means defining a toy sheet, each of said last named means being a discrete element having a front face and a rear face, said front face of said game board having a pictoral illustration on one portion thereof and informational printed material on another portion thereof, said informational printed material being disposed in a plurality of mutually spaced locations, removable elements overlying said informational printed material at each of said mutually spaced locations, said removable elements being comprised of material that obscures said informational printed material, a plurality of toys, each of said toys being mounted separate from said other toys to said front face of said toy sheet, a plurality of informational printed materials disposed on said front face of said toy sheet, each of said last named informational printed materials comprising first and second parts, said first part corresponding to said toys and to the informational printed material obscured by said removable elements, and said second part comprising further informational printed material.

2. A game as defined in claim 1 wherein said game board and said toy sheet are disposed with their rear faces in mutually facing relation.

3. A game as defined in claim 1 wherein said removable material is a metal coating.
