. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD LUKINS, on RANDOLPH, NEBRASKA.
CAR-PUSHING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 376,670, dated January 17,1888.
7 Application filed March 19, 1887. Serial N 0. 231,618. (No model.)
To aZZwhom it may concern: Be it known that I, RICHARD LUKINS, of Randolph, in the county of Cedar and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Oar-Pushers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved car pusher or.
' mover; and it consists in certain features of construction and novelcombinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In .the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are side views of the device,sh0wing the parts thereof in different positions; and Fig. 3 .isa top plan view of the device.
The base A is provided with depending guides D, which in practice project down along the opposite sides of the rail and serve to guidethe device as it is moved along the rail to the car-wheel. These guides are preferably the extended lower ends of standards usually as shown, through theintervention of the standards (1.
It will be noticed that the connection of the I pinch-bar with the lever is in rear of the pivoted connection of the said lever with its swinging fulcrum 0, so that the downward movement of the lever serves to give the operative movement to the. pinch-bar, enabling the application of great force to the desired end.
The invention is very simple, and the device in practice will be found to develop great power, and thus efliciently serve the purpose for which it is designed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent,
isq 1. A car pusher comprising a base having guides whereby to direct its movement on a rail, a pivoted pinch-bar, a lever, a swinging fulcrum, to which said lever is pivoted, and
connections, substantially as described, the pinch-bar being pivoted to the lever at apoint in rear of the pivot or fulcrum of such lever, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the base having depending guides whereby to direct itsmovements along a rail, a pivotedpinch-bar having an extension in advance of its pivot, a sup-,
port on which such bar is pivoted, a swinging fulcrum, and a lever pivoted to said fulcrum, and having the pinch-bar pivoted to it in rear of the point where it is pivoted to theswinging fulcrum, substantially as set forth.
3. The herein-described car-pusher, consisting of the base, the uprights d d, having extensions D.D, forming guides, the pinch-bar v E, having extension 6, the hand-lever F, and
the link 0, substantially'as described, and for the purposes specified. v
