Be it 'known that I, HENRY TEXTOR, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewer-Traps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in that class of sewervtraps that are attached to the ends of pipes for draining the water from cellars to the sewer and preventing the backwater from the sewer from passing into the cellar.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved trap of this kind which is simple in construction, effective in use, and which can be fastened easily and with an absolutely tight joint to the end ofthe pipe leading to the sewer.
The invention consists in the combination, with a cylindrical vessel containing a cone, a lioat, and a top plate having a seat for said cone, of a detachableneck on the bottom of said vessel, which neck is to be. fastened to the end of the pipe that leads to t-he sewer, a detachable bell covering the vessel, and a basin surrounding said cylinder.
rIhe invention also consists in the construction and combination of parts and details', as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.

The cup-shaped vessel or basin A is provided with a central bottom opening, A', from the edge of which a series of apertured lugs or wings, A2, project into said opening. The cylinder B is of less diameter than the basin A, is provided with anY exterior top iiange, B, and an interior bottom iiange, B2, the latter being provided with a series` of apertures,l

The exterior top iiange, B, is provided with two opposite notches, D, and from said notches the height or thickness of said flange gradually increases, as shown at D in Fig. 3. The top plate, E, of the cylinder Bis inclined from the rim down to a central opening, E', and at the rim it is provided with the upwardly-projecting flange F. The cover G, which has numerous apertures, G, rests upon the dange F, and is provided with two opposite downwardlyprojecting hooks, H, which can be passed through the notches D in the top flange, B and can engage the bottom of said dange.
The cover G is provided on its upper surface with the upwardly-proj ectinglugs I, which are to be used in turning the top plate, and upon said lugs a bell, J, rests, the diameter of which is greater than that of the cylinder B, To prevent the bell from shifting laterally lugs K are provided on thev inside of the same, which rest against the rim of the coverG. i
In the vessel B, I provide the loat L, having-a downwardly-projecting stem, L', whichV is passed through an aperture in a cross-frame, M', attached to a sheetmetal cone of copper, M, in the cylinder B, whereby the stem of the tloat is guided. The float nds its seating on the edge of the aperture E in thetop plate, E. The neck N is placed into the socket O and calked, so as to form an absolutely tight joint. Then the basin A is placed upon the top of the neck Nand screw-bolts B passed through the apertures of the corresponding lugs A'z and P, and nuts R are screwed on the upper ends of said lug-bolts, whereby the basin A is held firmly and securely on the neck N. The top plate, E, is placed upon the washer-rings S S of the ange B and the cover G placed above the top plate, thehooks .H passing through the notches D in thetlange B', and then the said cover is It is proturned axially, whereby it is pressed upon the l the bottom of the basin A. The cylinder Bis ring S, which in turn is pressed upon the flange IOO mof the cone M and the top flange, B', and thus a tight joint is formed. The bell J is then placed upon the cover G and the basin covered by a strainer of the usual construction. The Water in the cellar, &c., flows in the basin A through the strainer above the bell J, and down over the Same, and rises in the vessel A7 finally flowing through large apertures in the cover G on the top plate, E, and through the opening E in the same tothe conducting-pipe. When any backwater passes from the sewer into the t1ap,it raises the float and presses the saine against its seat, thus preventing said backwater from flowing into the cellar. As
- soon as the backwater flows off, the Heat drops, and the water from the cellar can pass off through the trap.
One of the special advantages of my trap is, that the neck can be ralked and secured in the socket O and the vessel A then fastened on said neck.
By making the eylinderB in such a manner that it can be bolted to the vessel the casting ofthe parts and working is materially simpli- 25 lied and the cost of making the trap reduced.
I-Iavingthusdeseribed myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. In a sewer-trap, the combination, with a cup-shaped basin, A, of the cylinder Bin the saine, the top plate, E, the float L, the cover G, provided with upwardly-projecting lugs, and the bell J, resting upon said lugs, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a sewentrap, the combination, with a cup-shaped basin, A, of the cylinder B, provided with an exterior top flange, B', and the interior bottom flange, B, the top plate, E, the float L, and the coverG, having lugswhich can be engaged with top ange, substantially as herein shown and described.
