BROOM-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,780, dated November 22, 1887.

Be it known that I, OHARLEs WHITE LOVE, of Fairpoint, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Broom-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device to be secured to the wall of a room or other suitable place, and in which a broom, brush, or other domestic utensil may be held when not in use; and theinvention consists in a device made of wire in one piece, which is so formed and bent projecting pair of curved gripping jaws or fingers with coils therein, which I will now proceed to describe with reference to the drawings, in which Figure 1 is an illustration of the application of the device as a broom-holder, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of the holder.

A represents the holder, made of a single piece of wire whose middle portion is bent in trefoil shape, with-three loops, a a a, which rest in the same plane and form both a base for the holder, which fits against the wall or point of support, and eyes for the screws which attach it thereto. The two ends of the wire are then extended outwardly at right angles to the basea a a, and are bent'each into one or more spiral coils, b b, in planes at right angles to the base a a a, and are then extended outwardly in the form of curved jaws c c, which may be sprung apart by and then close upon whatever article is forced between them with sufficient gripping effect to sustain it in position.

This device is very simple and cheap in construction, is quickly applied by screws in any location, and serves as a convenient support for the handle of a broom or brush, the neck of a bottle, or otherarticle to be sustained oft base with jaws having coils b b, which prevents the holder from slipping up, down, or sidewise over the holding-screws, and also prevents any pivotal action or turning about the point of attachment which takes place with a single screw, while the coils b b, in connection with the peculiar trefoil base, give a much greater amplitude of spring movement,adapting the holder to different'sizes of broom-handles and causing it to retain its elasticity and efficiency for a greater length of time.-

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new isa A spring clasp or holder for brooms, &c., consisting of a single piece of wire having its middle portion bent into three loops, a a a, to form a trefoil base adapted to receive the fastening-screws, and having its end portions bent into spiral coils b and spring-jaws c,eXtending at right angles from the base, substantially as shown and described.
