This is accomplished by leaving clothing or some other personal item on the seat or by marking them with a sheet of newspaper. The latter method entails folding a sheet of paper to a size whereby the ends can be slid between the slats of a seat for securing the paper in place.
It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a simple inexpensive marker for seats or the like.
It is another object of this invention to provide a marker which will be easily shaped and inserted without any difficulty.
It is another object of the invention to provide a marker having surfaces for advertising and for personal identification.
It is another object of this invention to provide a marker which can be discarded and burned without any additional expense to clean up personnel at sporting events.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Broadly stated the marker is simply a sheet of material folded to provide a depending portion and outwardly extending flaps whereby the depending portion is utilized to anchor the marker between a surface opening with the flaps resting on the surface.
With the above enumerated and other objects in view, the invention is set forth in greater detail in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the marker and the manner in which it is to be used;
FIG. 2 is a view showing the manner in which the marker is formed; and
FIG. 3 shows the marker with the underside of one of its flaps exposed disclosing an adhesive portion thereon.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 discloses a chair having side supports 11, 12 and a seat portion 13 formed from a plurality of spaced slats l4, 14. The marker, designated generally as 15 is shown in the manner in which it is to be used.
The marker 15, as is seen in FIG. 2, is preferably formed from a single sheet of paper stock and scored at lines 16, 17 and 18 to provide flaps I9 and 20 which are joined together by a generally V-shaped portion consisting of section 21 and 22 when the sheet is folded along the lines l6, l7 and 18. In folding the sheet the sections 21, 22 are brought together in abutting relationship as indicated by the arrows 23. These sections may be held together, if desired, by adhesive, staples,
or any other common fastening means. While the sheet is illustrated as being folded in four substantially equal portions, it is to be understood that the same result can be accomplished by having the portions vary in length.
After the marker is assembled to the shape shown in FIG. 3, one or both of the undersides of flaps l9 and 20 may be provided with an adhesive portion 24 to facilitate the holdin of the marker in place. The adhesive is optional an is not required when the paper stock is of sufficient thickness and weight. The adhesive 24 while being shown as being disposed in an elongated pattern may be placed thereon in spot form. Additionally, a protective tear strip may be placed over the adhesive and removed before use.
As is seen in FIG. 1, the flaps l9 and 20 may be utilized for placing the occupants name on one surface and advertising on the other.
In use the supplier may furnish the markers in sheet form whereby the user folds the same along the score lines l6, l7, 18 to the shape shown in FIG. 2. Thereupon he merely inserts the abutting sections 2] and 22 between the slats of the seat with the flaps 19 and 20 resting on the top of the slats, as per FIG. 1.
It is also contemplated that the marker can be furnished in its assembled form whereby the sections 21 and 22 are joined by fastening means as described above. In this instance there would be no need for the score lines 16, 17, 18. In any event, the marker may be discarded or kept to be used again.
Having thus described may invention, I claim:
1. A seat marker made from sheet material folded along lines to form outwardly extending flaps and an intermediate depending section therebetween whereby the depending section can be positioned in a surface opening with the flaps resting on the surface adjacent said opening, and means on at least one of said flaps for securing the same to said supporting surface.
2. The seat marker of claim 1 wherein the flaps and the dependent section are of substantially the same length and width.
3. The seat marker of claim 2 wherein the depending section is comprised of two portions of the sheet material placed in abutting relationship with fastening means holding the panels in said relationship.
4. The marker of claim 2 wherein at least one of the flaps is marked with advertising indicia.
5. The marker of claim 2 wherein said securing means is adhesive placed on the underside of at least one of the flaps to hold the same to said surface.
6. The seat marker of claim 1 wherein the depending section is comprised of two portions of the sheet material placed in abutting relationship with fastening means securing the panels in said relationship.
7. The marker of claim 1 wherein at least one of the flaps is marked with advertising indicia.
8. The marker of claim 1 wherein said securing means is adhesive placed on the underside of at least one of the flaps to hold the same to said surface.
