MARKING-TAG.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 869,321, dated September 6. 1887.

Application filed June 13, 1887. Serial No. 241,165. (No model.)

To all 2071 0722, it may concern:-

Be it known that I, SIMON DANOYGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Marking Tags; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,rei'erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and

to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in marking-tags, the features of which will be fully hereinafter set forth. The object of my invent-ion is to prevent thepoints of the clasps from projecting, and thereby preventing the scratching of the hands in the handling of articles to which the tag is attached.

The construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view of the paper blank. Fig. 2 is a view of the markingtag. Fig. 3 is a view of two forms of clasps. Fig. iis a transverse section of the tag on line at, Fig. 2.

Like letters designate like parts throughout the several views.

A is a paper blank punctured at the upper end, making the two holes S S, and at the lower end likewise two small holes, t t, to receive a wire clasp. The edges of the upper holes may be protected by metallic eyes; but this is not essential. The two ends are folded together, being bent at the transverse dotted line. A wire clasp having the form of b, Fig. 3, is passed through the lower orifices, and in this form the tag may be attached to merchandise, which is done by passing the points through the texture, then through near the inner margins of the larger orifices, then over the intervening portion of the blank or card, and finally the ends are bent down into the space of the larger orifices, so that the points are not exposed.

The form of the tag as attached to some texture or article of manufacture is as shown at A, Fig. 2, and the relation of the parts is also shown in the sectional View, Fig. 4..

At 12', Fig. 3, is shown a shouldered form of wire clasp which may be used.

On the outer surface of the tag is printed such matter as may be desirableas number, size, price, &c.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A marking-tag having the ends folded together to embrace articles of in erchandise,with a wire clasp in one end and orifices in the other to receive the points thereof, and said points bent down and terminating within said orifices, substantially as described.
