UNITED STATES PATENT ()EEICE.
ASA K. OW'EN, OF LAKE GENEVA, \VISOONSIN.
BLOCKER AND TABLET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,424, dated July 12, 1887.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, Asa K. OWEN, of Lake Geneva, in the county of \Valworth and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blockers and Tablets, of which the following is a specification, refer ence being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved blocker and tablet. Fig. 2 isa side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the paperholders.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
This invention pertains to improvements in blockers and tablets; and it consists of the combinations of parts, including their construction, substantially as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
To the board A, forming the body of the tablet, at one edge thereof, are secured two right-angled plates, 13, having the arms a I). The arm a is apertured to receive the screw by which the angled plate is secured to the body A, and from the said arm a a pointed pin, 0, projects at right angles, parallel with and a short distance from the arm b. The pin 0 is longer than the arm Z), and its outer end is preferably pointed.
To the extremity of the arm I) is hinged a right angled plate, 0, having arms (Z c, the arm d being about equal in length to the space between the arm b of the plate B and the pin 0. The hinge by which the rightangled plate 0 is connected with the arm I) of the plate B has sufficient friction to hold the plate 0 in any position in which it may be placed.
The paper D, used in connection with my improved blocker, is perforated near opposite corners at one edge of the sheet, for receiving the pins 0. A number of sheets of paper are received on the pins 0 while the right-angled plates 0 are in the position shown in Fig. 3
and in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2. \Vhen the required number of sheets has been placed on the pins 0, the right-angled plates (J are turned on their hinges, bringing them into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, the arm (I extending toward the pin 0, and thus preventing the sheets D from escaping from the pins.
The perforations in the sheets D are formed by punching out a portion of the paper, leaving clean-cut apertures for the reception of the pins 0, or the thread or twine used in binding the sheets together.
When it is desired to remove one of the sheets from the blocker, its free end is raised, causing the sheet to make a sharp angle with the pins 0, when the sheet may be removed from the pins by drawing the edge thereof between the arms (7, the angled plates 0, and the pins 0, without the necessity of turning the said angled plates.
It is obvious that wire books or loops may be employed in lieu of the wire pins. Therefore I do not limit m y improvement to straight wire pins.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the body A, of the angled. plates 13, provided with the wires 0, and the angled plates 0, hinged to the plates B, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with the body, of the angled plates provided with the wires and the angled hinged plates, and the sheet or sheets of paper having perforations for receiving the wires, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ASA K. OVEN.
