Abstract

A hand-operated sander which can be used to sand both sides of a louver (front and back) simultaneously. The louver can be part of a shutter, folding door, blind or any other louvered object. The sander consists of two elongated flexible members which are hingedly secured to each other at adjacent ends. Each member is adapted to detachably receive sandpaper. In use, one sandpaper carrying member is used in sanding one side of the louver while at the same time the other sandpaper carrying member is used in sanding the other side of the louver. A louver edge sander can be incorporated into the remainder of the structure described above whereby the edge as well as both sides of the louver can be sanded at the same time.

INVENTOR.
MARK DESCAN T LOUVER DOOR SANDER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A hinge extends between one end of a first flexible elongated thin member and an adjacent end of a second flexible elongated thin member. A first sheet of sandpaper is wrapped about the first member (spaced from the hinge) and is detachably secured to the first member. A second sheet of paper is similarly wrapped about and secured to the second member. A spring is secured to both adjacent ends to normally bias the members apart whereby each can be disposed adjacent a corresponding side of a louver. When both members are held in the hand, hand pressure overcomes the spring bias and squeezes the members toward each other for simultaneous sanding of both louver sides. An opposite end of one of the members can have an edge sander portion about which the corresponding sandpaper can also extend to permit a lower edge as well as both sides to be sanded simultaneously.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my sander;
FIG. 2 is a side view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a detail side view of the hinge and spring of my sander; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the edge sander section of my invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-4, first and second flexible elongated ribbonlike stainless steel members and 12 are joined at adjacent ends by hinge l4 welded thereto. A spring 16 secured to the inside of both joined ends provides a normal bias maintaining a desired separation between the members. An edge sander block 18 is riveted at 20 to the other end of member 10 on its top surface, block 18 and members 10 and 12 having the same width. A first sheet of sandpaper 34 is wrapped about opposite surfaces of member 10 as well as block 18 and extends toward but does not reach the 14 hinge.
The free ends of paper are sandwiched between corresponding transverse plates 22 and 24 and the corresponding opposite surfaces of member 10. A bore 26 extends transversely through plates and member and a bolt 28 extends through the bore and is secured by wingnut 30 to hold the plates tightly against the paper.
A second sheet of sandpaper 32 is wrapped about the other end and the two opposite surfaces of member 12 in like manner and is held detachably in position by plates 22 and 24 and bolt 28 and wingnut 30 as before. 1
My sander can then be used as previously described.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention,what is asserted as new is:
1. A sander comprising:
first and second elongated flexible ribbonlike members, one
end of one member being disposed adjacent one end of the other member; said members have adjacent facing surfaces and further including an edge sander block secured to the other end of the first member on the opposite surface thereof:
hinge means extending between said adjacent ends and secured thereto; and
spring means interconnecting and extending between said adjacent ends to establish a bias maintaining a desired separation between said members.
2. A sander as set forth in claim 1 further including first and second sheets of sandpaper, first means detachably securing said first sheet to the first member and block, and second means detachably securing said second sheet to said second member. I
3. A sander as set forth 1n claim 2 wherein said first sheet lS wrapped about the nonadjacent end of the first member and contacts both surfaces thereof as well as the surface of the block, said sheet being spaced from the hinge and spring.
4. A sander as set forth in claim 2 wherein the second sheet is wrapped about the nonadjacent end and both surfaces of the second member, the second sheet being spaced from the hinge and spring.

Claims (4)

1. A sander comprising: FIRST AND SECOND ELONGATED FLEXIBLE RIBBONLIKE MEMBERS, ONE END OF ONE MEMBER BEING DISPOSED ADJACENT ONE END OF THE OTHER MEMBER; SAID MEMBERS HAVE ADJACENT FACING SURFACES AND FURTHER INCLUDING AN EDGE SANDER BLOCK SECURED TO THE OTHER END OF THE FIRST MEMBER ON THE OPPOSITE SURFACE THEREOF: HINGE MEANS EXTENDING BETWEEN SAID ADJACENT ENDS AND SECURED THERETO; AND SPRING MEANS INTERCONNECTING AND EXTENDING BETWEEN SAID ADJACENT ENDS TO ESTABLISH A BIAS MAINTAINING A DESIRED SEPARATION BETWEEN SAID MEMBERS.
2. A sander as set forth in claim 1 further including first and second sheets of sandpaper, first means detachably securing said first sheet to the first member and block, and second means detachably securing said second sheet to said second member.
3. A sander as set forth in claim 2 wherein said first sheet is wrapped about the nonadjacent end of the first member and contacts both surfaces thereof as well as the surface of the block, said sheet being spaced from the hinge and spring.
4. A sander as set forth in claim 2 wherein the second sheet is wrapped about the nonadjacent end and both surfaces of the second member, the second sheet being spaced from the hinge and spring.
