Abstract

A GOLF PRACTISING DEVICE COMPRISING A BODY HAVING A HOLE EXTENDING COMPLETELY THROUGH IT, WHICH HOLE HAS A LARGER DIAMETER AT ONE END THAN THE OTHER, AND TWO LIDS PIVOTALLY ATTACHED TO THE BODY ON OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF. THE BODY AND LIDS MAY SIMULATE THE APPEARANCE OF A BOOK. THE HOLES MAY BE USED AS PUTTING CUPS AND THE LIDS AS RAMPS EXTENDING TOWARD THE HOLES. THE BODY MAY BE MADE BY VACUUM MOLDING ONE SHEET OF MATERIAL TO FORM AN APERTURED FLANGED MEMBER AND SECURING A FACE FORMING APERTURED SHEET TO THE FLANGE PORTION THEREOF.

A63b 5 7/ 00 U.S. Cl. 273-180 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A golf practising device comprising a body having a hole extending completely through it, which hole has a larger diameter at one end than the other, and two lids pivotally attached to the body on opposite sides thereof.

The body and lids may simulate the appearance of a book. The holes may be used as putting cups and the lids as ramps extending toward the holes. The body may be made by vacuum moldin-g one sheet of material to form an apertured flanged member and securing a face forming apertured sheet to the ange portion thereof.

DISCLOSURE This invention relates to devices for practising golf and in particular to devices suitable for practising putting.

According to British Pat. No. 1,015,958 such a device comprises an approximately rectangular body adapted to lie on the iioor and having a cylindrical hole in it and a lid attached to the body, the lid being movable between two positions so that in one position it covers the upper side of the body and covers the hole and in the other position it rests on the oor at one edge to form a ramp up which a golf ball can be putted to fall into the hole.

The main object of the present invention is to provide a similar device which is both easy to manufacture in large quantities and provides additional interest to the user.

According to the present invention a `golf practising device comprises a body having a hole extending completely through it, which hole has a larger diameter at one end than the other, and two lids pivotably attached to the body on opposite sides thereof.

The smaller diameter may be provided by an inwardly extending liange at that end.

Thus the user can open either lid to form a ramp up which a golf ball can be putted so as to use either the large end or the small end of the hole.

The sides of the body together with one large face thereof and the sides thereof may all be formed as an integral piece of moulded sheet material.

A Constructional form of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 3 is a sectional View on the line A-A on FIG. 1 but showing the parts in different positions.

The body is made by vacuum moulding a sheet of material 15 to form one large face 16 of the body, the wall 17 of the hole 11 an annular flange 19 projecting inwardly at one end of the wall 17 and the four sides 20. The other large surface is then covered by a flat sheet 21 having a hole corresponding to that of the ilange ,1,9k

fixed to the sheet 15. The sides may be covered with material to resemble leaves of a book and the inside surfaces of the lids and the two large surfaces of the body may be covered with green baize.

l claim:

1. A golf practising device comprising a body, opposed rst and second faces on the body, a hole extending through the body from the rst to the second face and having a larger diameter at one face than the other, first and second lids respectively hinged to corresponding edges of the first and second faces of the body, each lid being movable from a closed position covering its associated face to an open position in which it constitutes a ramp leading to its associated face when the device is disposed with its other closed lid on a support surface.

2.. A golf practising device according to claim 1 in which'the body comprises a moulded sheet forming one of said faces, the wall of the hole and four side walls and a at sheet constituting the other of said faces secured to said sheet of material.

3. A golf practising device according to claim 2 in the form of a simulated book in which the body simulates the pages of the book and ,the lids simulate the covers.

4. A golf practising device according to claim 3 comprising a book portion joining the hinged edges of the lids.
