SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357,685, dated February l5, 1887.

Application led June 17, 1886. Serial No. 205,450. (No model.)

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. MooREs, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention consists in a specific construction of parts, fully described hereinafter, by means of which certain mark cd advantages are obtained, as follows:

In the drawings, Figure lis a front view of the buckle with the strap in place, Fig. 2, a perspective view of the buckle without the strap, and Fig. 3 a modied form of construction.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improved buckle, I will proceed to describe fully the construction of the same.

l represents a central portion of round metal, the corresponding sides, 2 2, of which are extended in converging lines from the central portion and are bent to form a hook, as shown.

3 3 are side portions extending from the horizontal portions of the hook portion, which side portions, 3 3, are further extended as flattened portions 4 4, which latter are united by the cross-bar portion 5, as shown.

6 6 represent right-angled arms extending from the side portion oi' the buckle near its center, which arms form a bar or bail portion with a central slot, as shown.

7 represents the tongue of the buckle, which is hinged to the central portion, l, inthe ordinary manner.

The manner of using the buckle is substantially as follows: The hook portion of the buckle is attached to any proper base portion in any proper manner. The other portion of the buckle is used in the ordinary manner, the end of the strap after it has been buckled being passed through the bail portion to secure the parts in place.

I do not limit myself to the present construction shown. If desired, the buckle may be square in form, and the hook portion may be cast upon the basebar of the buckle, as shown in Fig. 3. The base portion may be a ring or a square metal piece, or a piece of any proper form.

It is possible by the employment of this device to unite many parts of the harness withoutsewing.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The buckle described, having the central portion, l, with bent end portions, 2 2, forming a hook, the side bars, 3 3 4 4, and crossbar portion 5, with right-angled arms 6 6, in combination with the tongue 7, as and for the purpose described.

2. The described buckle, consisting of the end hook portion adapted to receive and hold a ring or other article, said hook portion carrying a tongue, and the frame having the divided cross-bar or bail, substantially as described.
