SILIIOUETTE FENCING TARGET WITH ADJUSTABLE ARM This invention relates to a Silhouette Fencing Target with Adjustable Ann and springholder to hold a fencing foil, the principal object is to provide a practice target having the form of a fencer in the On Guard" position, with its adjustable holder or arm positioned in the high line or low line, allowing the combined practice of fencing beats, counter beats against the blade of the foil held in the target's arm, followed by thrusts to the full area of the target; also allowing the practice of disengages, coupes one-twos, and other fencing moves, and constructed in such a way as to allow the use of a fencing foil.
Another use object of this target is to provide a well defined area for the landing of thrusts, this is defined by the heart placed in the upper part of the torso of the silhouette, to train the fencer in aiming with control and success.
Another use object of this target is to provide a device as specified with areas under the fencing arm and the low line (bottom of target below the waist), these areas for the training of practice thrusts needed by the sport of fencing.
A still further object of this target is to provide an adjustable arm with springholder in which a foil can be inserted and secured by its handle, against this foil aimed forward in the high or low line a series of beats and counterbeats can be practiced with the foil of the fencer using the target.
Representative embodiments of this invention are herein presented, but it will, of course, be appreciated that the invention is susceptible of incorporation in still other forms coming within the scope of the appended claims.
In The Accompanying Drawings:
FIG. 1 is a front plan view. FIG. 2 is a vertical cut side view. FIGS. 3 and 4 show details of the roller track. FIG. 5 shows details of the adjustable arm with springholder.
The silhouette is of foam 7 recovered with a vinyl-type material 2 that is tacked to a backing of plywood 8 of the same silhouette design. In turn the silhouette as described is fastened to the main board 1 with screws 11.
The adjustable arm with springholder is mounted as follows: the spring 18 is screwed on the thread of the bushing 17, the bushing 17 is then screwed on one end of the adjustable arm 16 which is a tubing cut halfway in part and held together with a bolt and wingnut 19, the opposite end of the arm 16 is screwed into the flange 15, the flange is fastened with screws to the plywood backing 8. A foil 14 can be inserted and secured in the spring 18, the diameter of the spring is such that it will hold the handle of the foil firmly.
To adjust the target to the height desired or needed by the fencers using it, it can be raised or lowered vertically with the system of tracks 5 fastened with screws to the inside of the columns 4 and the rollers 6 fastened with screws to the board 1. The distance required between the two columns 4 is maintained by the rods 13 that are bolted on both sides of each column 4. The height wanted will be maintained by pushing the pins 9 into one of the many holes provided on the inside of the columns 4.
The whole system is to be bolted to a wall using six holes 112 provided for this effect in the two columns 4. Mounted as described this invention provides a practice target in the shape of the body silhouette of a rightor left-handed fencer standing in front of another fencer in the On Guard position. It also allows the practice of needed thrusts for the sport of fencing done with a fencing foil and in the general area of the body and especially in the areas under the fencing arm and the lower line (below the waist), and the area of the heart 3 made of a strong red material glued permanently on the upper center part of the torso.
This target also provides for the practice of beats and counterbeats done against the foil 14 followed by thrusts to any of the areas desired by the fencer.
This target provides for the practice of disengages, coupes, one-twos, and other fencing moves and thrusts as desired by the fencer himself or the coach or teacher. All is new and novel.
