To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIJAH MoCoY, of Detroit, in the county of TWayne and State of which- Figure 1 is a side view of the invention, partlyiu section, and showing the steam-dome of the engine and steampipe of the condenser.

This invention relates to improvements in lubricators of the class in which steam isuised to aid infeeding the oil to the cylinders and other parts of the steam-engine, being especially adapted for use on locomotives; and it consists inthe construction and novel arrange ment of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the drawings, and pointed outinthe claims hereto appended.

H designates a pipe provided with a suitable valve opening into the lower end of reservoir A, and by which said reservoir can be cleared or emptied of its contents.
The outer end of each tube E enters the side of a steam and oil chamber, I, near the top of the same, which chamber connects by a proper* .from the chamber I to the pipe X.
K is a curved scale secured to the outside of the chamber I, having scores or marking upon -it by means of which the pointer-arm k ou the stem of the valve J can be set so that 4either of the'openingsj, j', orj2 can be turned to communicate with the pipe X.
L is a tube, which opens into the tube c2 above the communication of the same with the steam-pipe C, and is controlled by the valve Z. The said tubeL divides into branches Z Z below, each of which runs to and passes through the side of a chamber, I, and has attached to its end a nozzle, Z2, which depends in said chamber. On the top of each chamber I is made an oil-cup, M, the opening m ot' which is engaged by the conical pointed valve m', the threaded stem 'of which engages the threaded opening of the standardml, rising inside the cup. By means of the said cup the chamber may be fed with oil when desirable and the feed regulated by the valve m.
Q is a covering used for the oil-reservoir A. The said coveringis composed of a layer, q, of sheet metal over one or more layers, q g', of a suitable nonconducting material-such as felt--and is secured in position on the reservoir IOO A by screw rings (j, engaging properlythreaded iianges g, and having retaining or holding flanges q for the edges of the layers of the covering. It is obvious that this covering Q, may, if desired, be applied to the various pipes and oil-cups of the device, being suitably secured thereon in any convenient manner.
By means of the danrG and formation of the tube E the valve F is water-packed, and the oil and any impurities rising from the reser- Voir and visible feed tubes cannot attach themselves to the valve or other parts so as to clog the same.
On account of the steam-pipe C rising from the dome c to the condenser the water condensed in said pipe will ilow back into the dome, and will carry with it the impurities coming with the steam from the boiler, so that the water in the reservoir will be practically free from said impurities.
In consequence of the pipe L running from a higher point of the tube c2 than the steampipe, the steam passing through said pipe L will be more nearly free from water of condensation and impurities, all such that exist falling back into the condenser.
Should the openings in the three-way valve J clog, the water of condensation from the n ozzle Zz will collect above said valve and will Wash all particles of oil and foreign matter g from said openings and clear the same.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. In a lubricator, the combination, with the oil-reservoir, condenser, and oil and steam chamber, constructed substantially as described, ofthe tube rising from the top of the condenser, the steam-pipe ascending from the dome of the boiler to said tube, the steam-pipe running' from a point oi said tube above its communication With the steam-pipe from the dome to the oil and steam chamber, and the nozzle on the end oi' the steam-pipe from condenser, and depending in the oil and steam chamber, substantially as specified.
2. In a lubrieator, the combination, with the oil and steam chamber and the mechanism, substantially as described, for feeding the same with steam and oil, of the three-Way valve, the stem ot' said valve being provided with a pointer-arm, and there being a curved scale secured to the outer side of the chamber and marked in such manner that the pointer can be turned thereon to make any one of the dischargeopenings of the valve communicate with the discharge-opening ofthe chamber, substantially as specified.
3. In a lubricator, the combination, with the condenser, reservoir, oil and steam chamber, visible feed-tubes, and oil-feed tubes onv the interior ofthe reservoir, ofthe horizontal tubes E,having thepartitions @and partial partitions or dams G, and the check-valves F, substantially as specified.
4. In a lubricator, the combination, with the reservoir A, )rovided with the flanges q, threaded on their edges, of the screw-rings Q2, and covering Q, composed ofthe inner layers, q', of non-conducting material, and outer layer, Q, ot' sheet metal, substantially as specified.
5. In a lubricator, the combination, with the condenser, oil reservoir,l steam and oil chambers I, visible feed-tubes, and oil-feed tubes on the interior ol' the reservoir, of the tube ci, rising from the top of the condenser, steam-pipe C from the dome of the boiler to the said tube, steam-pipe L from the tube c2 to the chambers I, nozzle l, threeavay valve J, provided With the pointerarm k and scale K, and tube E, having the partition e and partial partition G, and valve F, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
